BIO
Alex Vásquez Dheming is a lighting designer and production manager from San Salvador, El Salvador based in New York City. Selected collaborators include Big Dance Theater (Annie-B Parson), Nélida Tirado, Calpulli Mexican Dance, Miguel Gutierrez, Works & Process, SLM Dances (Sydnie L Moses), New York Theatre Ballet, Big Apple Performing Arts (Gay Men's Chorus NYC), Les Ballets Trockaderos, Ashwini Ramaswamy, Dance Entropy (Valerie Green). Her work has been seen throughout New York City (Lincoln Center, Guggenheim Museum, Park Avenue Armory, Baryshnikov Arts Center, New York Live Arts, Center for Performance Research, Performance Space New York, the High Line, Brooklyn Academy of Music, BRIC, Rattlestick Theater, Kaufman Music Center, Museo del Barrio, the Tank NYC, Soho Rep, Westport Country Playhouse, Skirball, The Wild Project), the United States (Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, New England Conservatory of Music, Theatreworks Colorado Springs, Festival Flamenco Albuquerque, LA public libraries, Princeton, University of Miami), Spain (Museo Guggenheim Bilbao), and France (Cannes Film Festival). Select concert lighting includes Gilberto Santa Rosa, Tito Rodriguez Jr., the Westerlies, the Owls, Merz Trio, and BTS (private event).
Alex holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Production Design from Savannah College of Art and Design, where she also studied Dance and Design for Sustainability. She is an alumna of the Wingspace Mentorship and of Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas (SILV). She was a recipient of the inaugural Playwright Realm’s International Theatermakers Award (2021) and of the Wege Prize Circular Economy Design Competition (2015). Alex was a featured designer in the San Diego Rep’s Latinx New Play Festival (2020), a commissioned artist for the Park Avenue Armory Sound & Color—The Future of Race in Design symposium (2022), and a design participant of HowlRound and Latinx Theater Common's Designer and Director Colaboratorio (2023). She has been a guest panelist for events such as USITT International Conference, Theater Education Conference (Educational Theater Association), Women+ In Theater (The Rep Theater), Assistant/Associate Lighting and Sound Designer NYC Event (USA 829, The Studio School of Design).
