Oscar Wilde’s Victorian comedy The Importance of Being Earnest has driven audiences to tears of laughter for well over a century with its wit and social commentary. In this production, playing at Producers’ Club Theaters on the first three Fridays and Saturdays in February at 5PM and 7PM, director Harrison Stengle finds a new, hidden angle. Wilde was an icon and martyr for Victorian gay life. In Wilde’s time, “earnest” was a code-word for gay. The Importance of Being Gay, drops the code and the result is a side-splitting romp through a classic comedy, featuring Jo DiNozzi, David Malinsky, Bess Miller*, Allison Sonson and Ryan Thomas.

Producers’ Club Theaters, walking distance from Times Square, is the Theater District’s landmark Off-Off Broadway playhouse in New York City. With five fully equipped theaters that convert into HD screening rooms, a Bar and Lounge, and three beautiful Studios, Producers’ Club is a conveniently located hub for artists of all disciplines to showcase their craft.
