Voice Afire Pocket Opera & Cabaret Presents The Art of Love
Voice Afire Pocket Opera & Cabaret will present the world premiere of The Art of Love (Into the Labyrinth) on Monday, January 9th at 8pm at Merkin Concert Hall, starring the Bergmann Piano Duo and actor Charles Murray. The Art of Love is an exciting multi-media event featuring Ray Luedeke’s original, virtuosic score for two pianos, Ronald Hurwitz’s riveting visuals, shot in Paris, and a text adapted from an ancient manual banned for two thousand years, Ovid’s The Art of Love.
In the concert event, two pianists and an actor interact with each other and with visuals projected onto transparent screens positioned in front of the back-lit performers. This show goes from wildly funny to dead serious, but is always riveting and entertaining with music that ranges from Rumba to Tango to Avante Garde – all in the name of Love. Or is it Lust? And there's more - a first half with music for two pianos by Ligeti, Bolcom, and Bergmann.
The Art of Love (Into the Labyrinth) will play on January 9th at 8pm at Merkin Concert Hall in The Kaufman Center (129 West 67th Street). Tickets, priced at $20 ($15 for students and seniors), can be purchased online at www.kaufman-center.org or by phone at 212-501-3330.
In January, Voice Afire will also be presenting the U.S. premiere of Butterfly’s Trouble, Ray Luedeke’s intriguing English language adaptation of Puccini’s opera Madama Butterfly and David Belasco’s play Madame Butterfly. This gripping “pocket opera” for only seven performers will run from January 7th-13th at the 45th Street Theatre (tickets, priced at $25, can be purchased online at www.VoiceAfire.com or by phone at 866-811-4111).
