Ars Nova presents, as part of the Out Loud series, a free reading of: The Great Imitator by Dylan Dawson, directed by Kerry Whigham. The cast includes Reed Birney, Lisa Emery, Roger Lirtsman and Armando Riesco tonight.
When a recently divorced, recently unemployed intellectual invites her depressive son and his hard-partying, professional model friends over for dinner and drinks, things get a little wild. A play about growing up, growing old, and the dangers of playing Edward Forty-hands with your mother. Dylan Dawson’s most recent play, Movie Geek, has been produced in New York (Ars Nova, The Lindhardt Theater, FringeNYC – Award Winner, The Culture Project – presented by Bill Cosby), L.A. (The Complex) and Maine (The Penobscot Theater). Dylan is a proud member of the Ars Nova Play Group and contributed to last year’s Group show, Playlist. His short video, “Great American Wars: Episode 6” appeared as part of Naked Angel’s Armed and Naked in America. He is also currently on staff with Naked Angel’s upcoming podcast project Naked Radio, which will be launched at the end of October. As an actor, Dylan has appeared onstage at the Women’s Project, HERE Arts Center, Ars Nova, and the Cherry Lane Alternative. His mighty rock band, Barbrastreisandlive, in which his synth hooks are prevalent, can be found on myspace and around town. As always, endless thanks and love to Ars Nova for their constant support.
Kerry Whigham is the current Director in Residence at Ars Nova. Among his most recent productions are the New York premiere of Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom for SPF, the world premiere of punkplay at Brown University, and the world premieres of two new plays at Ars Nova, including Nobody Likes the Mormons, which he also wrote. He has spent two summers at the Williamstown Theater Festival, is a Drama League Directing Fellow, and is a member of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab. He assisted Douglas Carter Beane on the Broadway production of Xanadu and James Lapine on two workshops of The Nightingale, the new musical by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater.
