The 2010 New York Innovative Theatre Awards were presented Monday night, September 20, at Manhattan's Cooper Union. Choreographer and dancer Jesse Zaritt swept the awards for which he was nominated, including Outstanding Solo Performance, Outstanding Choreography and Outstanding Performance Art Production. Mr. Zaritt appeared in terraNOVA Collective's soloNOVA Arts Festival in May of 2010 as the inaugural production of Theatre C, founded by Artistic Director Carlos Armesto. This is the second year in a row a performer from the soloNOVA Arts Festival has won both Outstanding Solo Performance and Outstanding Performance Art.

"We are so happy for Jesse, Carlos and the Theatre C team," said terraNOVA Collective artistic director Jennifer Conley Darling. "Winning so many awards for their first production is well deserved. We can't wait to see what comes next from this budding cross-disciplinary company."

"We couldn't be prouder of Jesse, and are humbled by the honor and recognition of this wonderful community," Theatre C artistic director, Carlos Armesto, said.

In total, terraNOVA Collective was nominated for nine Innovative Theatre Awards, including five for Outstanding Solo Performance. The soloNOVA Arts Festival annually presents unique and inspiring artists in their cross genre festival celebrating solo arts. Applications for the 2011 soloNOVA Arts Festival are currently on line for download. The deadline for this season's submissions is November 15, 2010. Jesse has recently taught at the University of the Americas Puebla (Mexico, Fall 2009), the American Dance Festival (NC, Summer 2008, 2009), Hollins University (VA, Spring 2009), and choreographed for the Seminar HaKibbutzim College Theater Department and the Acco Theater Festival (Israel, 2006-2007). Jesse was the recipient of a 2006-2007 Dorot Fellowship in Israel, which enabled him to conduct research on the relationship between political conflict and choreography. Jesse spent the academic year of 2000-2001 as a member of the Hollins Dance Project (Roanoke, VA) followed by five years as a dancer with the Shen Wei Dance Arts Company (NYC 2001-2006), and a season dancing with the Inbal Pinto Dance Company (Tel Aviv 2008). Jesse graduated Cum Laude in 2000 from Pomona College (CA).
