Yorkey to Direct STUNT GIRL Reading at MTC, 6/7
As previously reported by BroadwayWorld, the Manhattan Theatre Club will present a reading of the new musical STUNT GIRL (book and lyrics by Peter Kellogg, music by David Friedman) as part of their Ernst C. Stiefel '7@7' reading series. The Village Theatre of Issaquah, Washington, where STUNT GIRL was first presented in 2005, has now reported that Brian Yorkey, bookwriter and lyricist of NEXT TO NORMAL and former artistic director of the Village Theatre, will direct the reading.
STUNT GIRL tells the story of Nellie Bly, who was a groundbreaking investigative journalist, an intrepid world traveler, and a captain of industry - all in a time before women had the right to vote. The musical was first presented at the Village Theatre's Festival of New Musicals in 2005 and was later performed on their mainstage in the 2008-2009 season. The Manhattan Theatre Club reading will feature alumni of these productions, including musical director R.J. Tancioco and actors John Patrick Lowrie (Joseph Pulitzer) and Louis Hobson (Arthur Brisbane).
Like all readings in the '7@7' series, the reading of STUNT GIRL will be free and will take place at New York City Center, Stage I at 131 West 55th Street. Seating is limited; reservations are required.
