The York Theatre Company, James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director, will present a concert version of an exciting new musical, BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN, based on Sergei Eisenstein's classic silent film, today, July 22 at 3:00, as part of its Developmental Reading Series. The production has been developed in association with Algonquin Arts Theatre, William Whitefield, Executive Director.

The through-composed musical tells the story of a young sailor named Alyosha, his shipmates and his family, all of them entangled in the tragic events of Russia's 1905 revolution. It is a tale of everyday people battling oppression. In their passionate struggle, Alyosha and his friends and loved ones embody the resilience of the human spirit.

The music for BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN is by Eric Allaman, and the book and lyrics are by Jeffrey Couchman. Allaman is a noted film and television composer (Legend, Witless Protection, Duck Dynasty, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition). Couchman is librettist for Blood and Fire, which was recently presented as part of The PiTCH at the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival, and author of the award-winning book The Night of the Hunter: A Biography of a Film.

Micah Young, awarded Best Music Director NYMF 2013 and currently music directing Mother Jones and the Children's Crusade at NYMF, is Music Director for POTEMKIN.

The cast, many of whom are part of New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players, includes Darrel Blackburn, Elisabeth Cernadas, Michael Galante, Matt Leisy, Julianna Stanford Nagy, Rebecca O'Sullivan, Chris-Ian Sanchez, Angela Christine Smith, Seph Stanek, David Wannen, Eric Werner, and Jason Whitfield.
