From the writer and director Kings Of Harlem and the long-running Off-Broadway hit Black Angels Over Tuskegee, playwright Layon Gray continues to expand African-American theatre with his latest work The Girls Of Summer, winner of the NAACP award for Best Play. "

Set in 1945, Chicago, the coach of an all black female baseball team prepares them for an exhibition game against the Rockford Peaches, ( A League of Their Own) an all-white female team and champions of the AAGPBL (All American Girls Professional Baseball League) Racism and deceit are brought to light as this powerful drama unveils the truth beneath the surface."

The suspenseful drama captures an era in American history when women were called on to keep baseball alive as the men went off to fight in World War II. The all African - American female cast stars Katie Mack, Martina Barksdale, Diana Sanchez, LaTrina Rice, Alexandria Danielle King, Nicolette Ellis, Tangela Wilson, Laci Broussard, Zania Ahaha, Mildred VictoRia Jones-Hamm and Kimberlee Monroe as Coach Hicks.
