What It Costs To Be An Inspiration
Gloria Steinem  - - “I urge you to let both Perdita and Pierre expand your idea of what is possible."

Perdita” by Pierre-Marc Diennet, premieres Off Broadway at The Lion Theatre (Theatre Row), 410 West 42nd Street, NYC. Now in previews, the opening is Tuesday, November 18th.  The director is Linsay Firman; with set design by Nick Francone, costume design by Blythe Quinlan, lighting design by Les Dickert and the sound designer is Shane Rettig.  The new play is produced by Matthew Putman and Marine Putman.   (2 hours with one 15 minute intermission)    www.perditaoffbroadway.com

Gloria Steinem, the American feminist icon, journalist, and social and political activist stated: "Perdita" is a play about a courageous woman written by a brave son. I left it knowing her even better than I did in life. I urge you to let both Perdita and Pierre expand your idea of what is possible."

Perdita” is a gloves off look at the legacy of the liberated woman.  The son of a feminist activist  named Perdita Huston (1936-2001), asks the hard questions.  Did we benefit from all these single independent women raising their children alone?  Did the ‘Murphy Brown’ generation get it wrong?  Was feminism good for everybody?  Were there unexpected casualties in the war for equal rights?

Perdita,” a deeply personal and daring play, seeks to open the debate again about the place of women in society. Out of love and respect for a brave and accomplished mother, a son reevaluates the politics and passions that inspired her.  Did Perdita mess up her own parenting even while she was trying to promote responsible motherhood around the world?

An extraordinary woman, a Feminist human rights activist, Perdita Huston grew up in Maine. She went to school in France earning degrees in International Relations and Journalism, and would become a globetrotting do-gooder, most notably for the Peace Corps.   She was a woman who felt passionately, acted decisively and spoke adamantly about equality between sexes; environmental protection, reproductive health and human rights.  Spanning several continents and decades from Bulgaria, Algeria, Paris, Geneva, London, Bangladesh, back to the U.S.; New York City and Washington, DC to the United Nations, she mothered from a distance.  These are the challenges of a driven mother who expanded the definition of family life.

Pierre-Marc Diennet has been acting and writing plays since high school. His acting credits include: Playwrights Horizons, BAM, The Utah Shakespearean Festival, The Denver Center Theatre Company, The Public Theatre of Maine, and the National and International Tours of ‘Scooby-Doo.’ He has written three other full length plays: “Shell”, “Murder of the Seas” (presented at the 2008 New York International Fringe Festival), and “Bus to Bamako” (which will have it's debut at Opera House Arts in February).

“Perdita” performances through December 7th are: Monday & Tuesday and Thursday & Friday at 8:00 pm; Saturday at 2:00 pm & 8:00 pm and Sunday at 2:00 pm & 7:00 pm.
