The Drama League (Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, Executive Artistic Director), in addressing a safe working environment for directors, actors, and stage managers, announced today the creation of a new workshop that will focus on intimacy issues in the creative working environment. The special workshop, Intimacy Direction, hosted and lead by Intimacy Director Claire Warden, will take place on Saturday, October 13, 2018 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at The Drama League Theater Center in Tribeca (32 Avenue of the Americas.)

Intimacy Direction is a comprehensive approach to the creation of moments of intimacy on stage or screen. The consent based work method protects and respects actors. The context focused approach allows directors to communicate their vision and actors to realize it in a confident, creative and safe way. The unique method of choreography allows specific and repeatable visual storytelling as well as holding the integrity of the intimacy throughout the rehearsal and performance process. With the introduction of specific protocols and methods it supports and protects the whole creative team - directors, actors and stage management - as well as teachers, producers and company management. From easing discomfort to preventing sexual harassment, Intimacy Direction allows the whole team to create authentic and powerful stories of intimacy in a safe, respectful and consensual way.

Claire Warden is a trained and accredited Intimacy Director and, as Intimacy Director Liaison for Intimacy Directors International and co-founder of Theatrical Intimacy in the UK, she is spearheading the movement of change in our industry and advocacy for actors.

She is also a bold, honest, passionate actress with an enormous heart. Powerful and entrancing, born to laugh, learn & live she has enormous experience and knowledge in classical theatre, especially Shakespeare, as well as a fascinating repertoire of contemporary theatre, film and T.V.

Claire is also a Fight Director and choreographs stage fight across the East coast and teachers at a number of training institutions.

Originally from the tiny, beautiful island of Guernsey, Claire began her career in the UK and has performed throughout the British Isles, Europe and across America.
