Hartford Stage and Signature Theatre Company's co-production of Horton Foote's three part theatrical epic, THE ORPHANS' HOME CYCLE, begins performances this Thursday, September 3 in Hartford under the direction of Michael Wilson.

Performances of THE ORPHANS' HOME CYCLE at Signature begin November 5, 2009, with tickets on sale at www.signaturetheatre.org beginning September 11 and at the Signature Theatre Box Office beginning September 15.

Christopher Wallenberg penned an article for the Boston Globe titled "Family story brimming with emotion, Freind, daughter ready Foote cycle"

It begins "Staging an epic, nine-play dramatic cycle by one of the great playwrights of the 20th century would be a daunting, emotionally draining task under any circumstances. In the cycle, 22 actors play more than 70 characters in the story of three decades in one man's life, seen through three generations of three families.

Add in the fact that the playwright, Horton Foote, died earlier this year at the age of 92, not long after adapting the plays into a three-part series, and that a longtime champion, director Michael Wilson, and Foote's daughter Hallie are the two driving artistic forces behind the production, and it's no wonder that emotions are running high and more than a few tears are being shed as opening night nears."

Frank Rizzo penned an article titled "Michael Wilson Suggested Turning Nine Plays Into Three-Part 'Orphans' Home Cycle' for the Hartford Courant.

The piece begins "In 1974, shortly after his mother died, Horton Foote returned to his native Wharton, Texas, to visit the house where he grew up. He spent the first 16 years of his life - from 1916 to 1932 - in that house before he left his family and the small farming town southwest of Houston to pursue the world of the stage.

Foote sorted through family letters and personal papers, coming to terms with the loss of both his parents. (His father died in 1973.) He discovered his father's search for a "home," descriptions of his parents' marriage and the dispossession of an American community."
