CSC's Young Company to Present MACBETH, 3/8-22

By:

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, will present the eighth season of its popular YOUNG COMPANY, which creates classical works specially tailored for young audiences. This season's production will focus on Shakespeare's Macbeth, and will run from March 8 through March 22 at Classic Stage Company (136 East 13th Street). Columbia University M.F.A. students and professional Equity actors will be featured in Shakespeare's darkest tragedy. Directed by Tony Speciale (A Midsummer Night's Dream), Macbeth will be presented in a 90-minute abridged version specifically geared toward student and family audiences. Tickets are $25, and $20 for students and seniors.

In tandem with the production of Shakespeare's Macbeth, Classic Stage Company continues its exciting educational outreach program, focused on the development of young actors and young audiences in New York City. Student actors of THE YOUNG COMPANY will be functioning as teaching artists in a series of workshops on Shakespeare in NYC public schools throughout the five boroughs, culminating in the students' attendance at special student matinees of Macbeth. The overall goal of the program is for young artists to inspire young audiences. CSC'S YOUNG COMPANY reaches thousands of New York City public schoolchildren each year.

CSC's YOUNG COMPANY program is part of Shakespeare for a New Generation, a national program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.

Classic Stage Company is the award-winning theatre committed to re-imagining the classical repertory for a contemporary American audience. Founded in 1967, CSC uses works of the past as a way to engage in the issues of today. Highly respected and widely regarded as a major force in American theatre, it has become the home to New York's finest established and emerging artists, the place where they gather to grapple with the great works of the world's repertory from Sophocles to Sondheim. CSC has been cited repeatedly by all the major Off-Broadway theater awards: Obies, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Drama League and the 1999 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Body of Work. CSC's current production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Passion, directed by John Doyle, runs through April 7. The season will continue in May with The Caucasian Chalk Circle, by Bertolt Brecht, featuring new music by Duncan Sheik, directed by Brian Kulick.
