CLOWNS EX MACHINA in CLOWN AXIOMS a gory, romantic tale (told by clowns)

Clown Axioms is a poetic and preposterous all-women clown spectacle that will receive its world premiere October 9-18th at LaMaMa Club, 74A East 4th Street. Created and directed by Kendall Cornell.

"The mystery of women clowning!" says Bill Irwin, Tony-award winning actor and clown. "Different things are funny but it's easier not to think so. Man in a dress, almost always a laugh. Woman in a tux, not as often (but sometimes!). Kendall Cornell and her clowns are waist deep in all these questions -- plumbing the mystery." Clown Axioms, with its twelve women clowns, illuminates a distinct, new landscape in modern clowning.

Clown Axioms is a humorous series of visual vignettes, short sketches and madcap dance numbers filled with familiar figures from fairy tales and gothic romances - a clown demonstrates the irritating experience of being dismembered and baked in a Grimm-style pie; inane fairies brush their teeth; a clown searches for an audience member to cram a too-small shoe onto her foot; a black-garbed Victorian clown moans a melodramatic farewell before sacrificing herself in a burning building. Clown Axioms is filled with impressionistic moments of romance, betrayal, and transformation - a dreamscape explored with tenderness, sweetness and gleeful humor.

Clowns Ex Machina (formerly Kendall Cornell's Soon-To-Be-World-Famous Women's Clown Troupe) trained with Ms. Cornell and clowned under her direction in Not Just for Shock Value and Clowns By Dead Reckoning, as well as in a special event for Cirque du Soleil. Kendall Cornell is an accomplished clown in her own right and has toured her dynamic solo clown pieces, Flamenco Girl, The Maneater, and P.S. de la Resistance in NYC and abroad. Ms. Cornell worked extensively with David Shiner (Fool Moon, Cirque du Soleil) in directing the U.S. version of the circus-theatre spectacle, Pomp, Duck & Circumstance. She was nominated for 2007 Clown of the Year by the New York Downtown Clown Revue.

Clown Axioms opens on Oct. 9th at 10pm continues Oct. 10th, 16th, 17th at 10pm and Oct 11th & 18th at 5:30pm.
