CHRIS GETHARD: CAREER SUICIDE to Bring Dark Comedy Off-Broadway This Fall

By:

Chris Gethard: Career Suicide, a new comedy written and performed by Chris Gethard, will play The Lynn Redgrave Theater, (45 Bleecker Street at the corner of Lafayette Street) beginning October 5th with the official opening scheduled for October 13th.

Chris Gethard: Career Suicide is presented by director, writer, and producer Judd Apatow (Trainwreck, Knocked Up, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Bridesmaids). Apatow is producing along with Brian Stern of AGI Entertainment, Mike Lavoie, and Mike Berkowitz.

Direct from an acclaimed, sold-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Chris Gethard: Career Suicide is a new comedy about depression, alcoholism, suicide, and the other funniest parts of life. Chris holds nothing back as he dives into his experiences with mental illness, ethically questionable psychiatry, and finding hope in weird places... even northern New Jersey. From devastating lows to manic highs, Chris Gethard: Career Suicide is a painfully honest journey into the mind of one of the most original and exciting comics at work today.

Directed by Kimberly Senior (Disgraced on Broadway, The Who And The What), Chris Gethard: Career Suicide will have scenic design by Brendan Boston (The Iceman Cometh), lightning design by Jen Schriever (Eclipsed on Broadway) and Trevor Dewey (The Coast of Utopia: Voyage), and sound design by Ryan Rumery (Fool For Love on Broadway).

Chris Gethard: Career Suicide marks Chris Gethard's New York Stage debut.

"People have expressed to me that making comedy about depression is insensitive. I vehementlydisagree. We need to start laughing about this stuff, so maybe we can finally be comfortable talking about it afterwards," said Chris Gethard. "I just try to make sure my jokes come from an honest place, and unfortunately for me being honest means copping to the fact that I once crashed a car on purpose."

"Sometimes comedy allows us to deal with stuff that we aren't quite ready to deal with. And depression is something that people still don't like to talk about it," said Judd Apatow. "Luckily, Chris Gethard is a hilarious storyteller and is willing to talk about all of it, to what can only be referred to as an ill advised degree."

Tickets for Chris Gethard: Career Suicide range from $45 (previews) and $55 (after October 13th) with premium seating available. Chris Gethard: Career Suicide plays at The Lynn Redgrave Theater (45 Bleecker Street at the corner of Lafayette Street) Tuesday - Sunday at 7:30pm, with matinees Saturday and Sunday at 4:30pm. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.CareerSuicideShow.com or calling OvationTix at 866-811-4111.

Chris Gethard (writer/performer) is the host and star of "The Chris Gethard Show" on Fusion and the host of the popular Earwolf podcast "Beautiful Stories from Anonymous People", He is currently starring in the critically acclaimed Mike Birbiglia film, "Don't Think Twice" and can also be seen as 'Todd' on Comedy Central's "Broad City".
