The Community NYC's Inaugural Show BECKY SHAW Begins Tonight at The Producers Club

The Community NYC which was founded in 2014, is producing their inaugural theatrical production, Gina Gionfriddo's award winning play BECKY SHAW. The production is directed by Elena Kritter (Producing Director for The Community NYC) who also serves as the Executive Producer. The cast of BECKY SHAW is comprised of graduates of The William Esper Studio. In addition to theatre, The Community NYC also produces short films and hosts events such as readings, cultural excursions and improv jams.

Matriarch Susan Slater and grad student Suzanna Slater adjust to their new middle class life after the death of the financially exhausted family patriarch. Max Garret comes to save his adopted mother and best friend, but Susan refuses his offer, and Suzanna is too consumed in grief to be saved. Eight months later, newlyweds Suzanna and Andrew set up Max on a blind date with Andrew's coworker, the mysterious and unassuming BECKY SHAW. After a date gone horribly awry, BECKY SHAW latches on to these strangers, and won't let go until all is restored, and all relationship boundaries are forever changed.

The cast features Carson Alexander (A Hard Rain/Theatre for the New City), S.Quincy Beard (Mourning Lily/The Collective), Carly Forde (A Christmas Ham/The Peoples Improv Theater), Jac Grady (Jesus Christ Superstar w/Tony Award Winner Ben Vereen), and Alec Wirth (Where We Go/Columbia University Theatre).

The creative team includes set design by Andrew Diaz (Smoke/The Flea Theater), lighting design by Benjamin Ehenreich (Owners/Yale Repertory Theatre), sound design by Daniela Hart (I Wrote On Your Wall And Now I Regret It/Wild Project), graphic design by Sean Devare (The Shakespeare Forum), and stage management by Jenny Ainsworth (A Midsummer Night's Dream/CSC Young Company).

Performances take place at The Grand Theater at The Producers Club, 358 West 44th Street (Between 8th & 9th Ave), New York, NY 10036. Subways: A/C/E/N/R/Q/1/2/3/7 to 42nd street. Tickets are $18.00 and are available at www.thecommunitynyc.bpt.me.

Gina Gionfriddo (Playwright) is an award-winning playwright and accomplished television writer. Her play BECKY SHAW, premiered at the Humana Festival in 2008 and opened Off Broadway at Second Stage Theatre (Outer Critics Circle Award) in 2009. The play was a finalist for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize in Drama and later enjoyed a long run in London at the Almeida Theatre where it received two Evening Standard Award nominations. In addition to BECKY SHAW, her play Rapture, Blister, Burn was also a finalist for the 2013 Pulitzer Prize in Drama. Other plays include After Ashley (Vineyard Theatre, Obie Award), U.S. Drag (Originally produced by Clubbed Thumb), Squalor, and Guinevere (O'Neill Playwrights Conference). For television, she has served as a writer and or producer on Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Borgia, and House of Cards.

Elena Kritter (Director/Executive Producer) is a New York City based actor and personal trainer. Recent credits include The Drunken City (Battalion Theatre), As You Like It (Shakespeare on the Sound), and Adara in Kasuba Mukuka's short film, "The Dark Room". Elena trained at the 2-Year Full Time Meisner Training Program at the William Esper Studio, BADA's Midsummer at Oxford Program, The Maggie Flanigan Studio Summer Intensive, and Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia. This is her directorial debut.
