TheatreLAB to Present OBLIVION, 2/20-3/7

By:

TheatreLAB, Richmond's home for unexpected & evocative performance, is proud to announce the second offering from their 2014/2015 season: Oblivion by Carly Mensch. In this regional premiere production of Oblivion, directed by Jeffrey Cole, we meet Uber-hip Brooklynite parents, Pam (Kimberly Jones Clark) and Dixon (Joe Pabst), who take great pride in their progressive approach to parenting...however, when their 17-year-old daughter, Julie (Zoe Cotzias), repeatedly lies about where she spent the weekend, their cool, high-brow façade crashes and burns. With the help of her friend Bernard (Joseph Nelson), Julie must discover if her new fascination with Christianity after her weekend trip to Church Camp will break her family's dynamic. TheatreLAB is proud to present Oblivion in The Basement as part of the 2015 Acts of Faith Festival from February 20th through March 7th.

From TheatreLAB Artistic Director, Deejay Gray: "The shows that are produced as part of the city-wide Acts of Faith festival always end up being some of the favorite plays of Richmond's theatre season every year. Since our inception, TheatreLAB has had two submissions: the award-winning production of Riding the Bull in 2013 at Gallery5, and last year's critically-acclaimed production of Grace, performed at RVA Event Space. Both of these shows brought us new audiences from the Acts of Faith crowd and this year with Oblivion, we are thrilled to not only bring a new favorite play to our audience, but to also bring them into our new home, The Basement!"

From Oblivion Director, Jeff Cole: "The Acts of Faith festival is inclusive of all types of faith: religious, spiritual, cultural, family, self...Oblivion sets itself apart by collecting all of these models under a single umbrella. I'm excited to show these characters as human beings who are complex and layered, unable to be defined by simple categories or labels. They make mistakes, they suffer, they are proud, they evolve, and - ultimately - live with the decisions they make."

Oblivion runs select dates from February 20th through March 7th in The Basement at 300 E. Broad Street, in the heart of the Art's District in Downtown Richmond. Ticket prices range from $15-30. More information about the show and a full production schedule is available at theatrelabrva.org.
