THE PLAY: The Memory of Water, the 2000 Olivier Award winner for best comedy, is the laugh out loud and poignant dark comedy that tells the story of three sisters who have come together for their mother’s funeral in Yorkshire, England. Vi, the mother, recently passed away from Alzheimers at 75 and appears in Mary’s dreams as a younger reflection of herself. As the sister’s revisit their childhood, they struggle with their own version of events and how their memories are shaped by perceptions rather than reality. The age-old tradition of recollecting these stories is at the center of this bittersweet, life-affirming show and it will resonate with each of us who has lost a loved one and has looked back at their childhood with deep and impressionable memories.
