The Onewhero Society of Performing Arts (OSPA) will be bringing Playing Miss Havisham to the stage on 4 August at 8pm, courtesy of Arts on Tour NZ and Willow Productions.

This work of unexpected visual richness, directed by Sue Rider, unfolds with mystery, music and surprise. It is described as an intimate comedy with an array of endearing characters, complete with wedding dress and cobwebs!

Helen Moulder plays the role of Claudia who lives in rural Canterbury with her farm accountant husband and her son Ben who plays in a band. When an eccentric Irish film-maker arrives in NZ to make a film of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations, Claudia is keen to audition for the role of Miss Havisham as she sees it as a way out of her humdrum existence. As she prepares for the role, she finds her own life takes on the twists and turns of a Dickens novel.

Music by Bach, Chopin, Schubert, Granados, Debussy & Gareth Farr and piano music recorded by Richard Mapp.

Tickets are available from River Traders, George Street, Tuakau at $20. See www.ospa.org.nz.
