In anticipation of their upcoming performances in Nashville's Nutcracker, four characters from Nashville Ballet's performance of the beloved holiday classic will join Twitter this week to connect with fans and answer questions.
Clara, Mouse King, Nutcracker and Sugar Plum Fairy will all join the world of social media from their own individual Twitter accounts. They will reveal what happens amongst the shows' characters before the curtain lifts and after it falls.
"Fans will have an opportunity to learn what makes Nashville's Nutcracker so unique directly from the characters themselves," Nashville Ballet Artistic Director and CEO Paul Vasterling said. "Such open access will offer followers an unprecedented and entertaining look inside the history, legacy and personalities of their own city."
One of the most beloved characters of the entire holiday season, Sugar Plum Fairy (@SugarPlumNash) will help her followers understand the technical aspects of staging and dancing a traditional ballet. She is prepared to answer reader questions about ballet technique, production and costuming.
The main character of Nashville's Nutcracker, Clara (@ClaraNashBallet), will provide insights into the story from her perspective, and will delve into her relationship with Nutcracker, her admiration for Sugar Plum Fairy and conflicts with her younger brother, Fritz.
The story's most recognizable character, Nutcracker (@NutcrackerNash), will educate his followers about his cumbersome costume, turning into a prince, developing a relationship with Clara and his conflict with Mouse King.
The classic antagonist of the tale, Mouse King (@MousekingNash) will reveal the source of his friction with the Nutcracker and expose his mischievous personality through the social medium. His tweets will reveal behind-the-scenes relationships and interpersonal conflicts that are uncovered during rehearsal and production.
The characters will send out their first tweets today, and will actively recruit followers during their rehearsals and performances. Fans can see each character live on stage performing their respective roles at TPAC's Jackson Hall during the following dates and times:
