Clarence Brown Theatre Receives Shubert Foundation Grant

A foundation connected to the operators of several Broadway theaters has given a $10,000 grant to the Clarence Brown Theatre.

The theater was among a select group of recipients nationwide to receive grants from the New York-based Shubert Foundation.

The foundation provides general operating support to not-for-profit professional resident theaters, dance companies, and arts-related organizations to help support and nurture their operations. Grant recipients must have track records of artistic achievement, administrative strength, and fiscal responsibility.

"We are delighted to be among such an outstanding roster of professional theaters in the United States to receive funding from the Shubert Foundation," said David B. Byrd, the Clarence Brown Theatre's managing director. "Their stamp of approval means a great deal to our organization and will help us achieve our dual mission of training the next generation of theater artists while producing high-quality professional theater for the Knoxville community and beyond."

The Shubert Foundation is connected to the Shubert Organization, which for decades had a vast theatrical empire across the United States. The company currently operates seventeen Broadway houses, an Off-Broadway house, and theaters in Boston and Philadelphia.
