ARS POETICA, THE POSTER et al. Set for INFINITHÉÂTRE's 2011-2012 Season

INFINITHÉÂTRE is proud to announce its 2011-12 season, which will be staged entirely at the Bain St-Michel (5300, rue St-Dominique). It all starts in mid-November with a guest production presented by Teesri Duniya Theatre: the English translation by Shelley Tepperman of Philippe Ducros' French hit L'Affiche, now The Poster.

Without stopping for breath, the company charges into its annual reading series, The Pipeline, which will feature the winning script from the Write-On-Q! playwriting competition as well as two other new and as yet unpublished Québec English plays. All part of Infinithéâtre's ongoing commitment to discovering and developing new Québec work at a prIce That can't be beat: pay-what-you-can!

Ars Poetica, Arthur Holden's (first winner of the Pam Dunn Write-On-Q! competition) new comedy about trying to keep a floundering English literary magazine alive in Québec is exactly what the doctor ordered to stave off those winter blues in January and February.

Ellen David (CBC's 18 to Life) directs the season closer, The Leisure Society, another critical and box office hit from the Francophone theatre community that takes a searing, yet comedic look at the fate of western society.

In Palestine, when somebody dies as a direct result of the struggle they make a poster with the picture of the martyr and hang it on the walls. Abou Salem prints those posters and one day he finds he must print the poster of his only son, Salem. The Poster is a close personal look at the consequences on both sides of the bullet in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. L'Affiche, the original French version of the play, was one of five finalists for the 2009 Grand prix de la dramaturgie (France) and was named Play of the Year in 2009 by the AQCT (Association québécoise des critiques de théâtre).

The air conditioning has failed. The creditors are circling like sharks. And the publisher wants to sleep with anything that moves. That's the situation at Ars Poetica, a Montreal literary magazine where chaos reigns and disaster is never more than an errant BlackBerry click away. Into this swirl of high culture and low morals steps lawyer Hugh Rose, whose idealistic daughter Naomi works as a summer intern for the magazine. When Hugh discovers the desperate state in which the periodical finds itself, he joins the struggle to keep the enterprise afloat - willingly at first, then with increasing reluctance as he becomes caught up in the intrigues of George the publisher, Julia the editor, and a singular Canada Council officer named Diane. Ars Poetica is a comedy about poetry, wireless communications and the wayward impulses of love.
