In collaboration with writer Jean Rouaud, Jean-Christophe Maillot revives the torments of a story in direct contact with our childhood fears and our night terrors. These buried experiences are here exhumed and associated with a Machiavellian family context that serves as a support for a ballet in chiaroscuro.
The passage of the State animal to a human being runs through the whole work and questions our own nature. We believe we are different from the animals by our ability to make choices. But do we only be able? Are we not at the bottom also lost as this Prince?
Jean-Christophe Maillot shows us hesitant between white and black, good and evil, the innocence and eroticism. Perhaps humanity is finally on this rough insatiability that defines us from our first cry - we want everything!
