Milwaukee Rep Announces 'Created in Milwaukee' Campaign

Last night at Milwaukee Repertory Theater's annual meeting, Artistic Director Mark Clements and  Managing Director Chad Bauman alongside Campaign chairs Judy Hansen and Catherine Robinson unveiled the "Created in Milwaukee" Capital Campaign to raise $10 million for several major initiatives over the next few years, which will solidify The Rep as a major player on the national theatrical scene and a cornerstone of Milwaukee's cultural community. 
Tony Award-Winning 1776 Comes to Lake Country Playhouse

Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra Receives Grant from the NEA

National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $82 million to fund local arts projects across the country in the NEA's second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2017.  Included in this announcement is an Art Works award of $12,000 to Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) to support its Progressions program in the 2017 - 18 season.  The NEA received 1,728 Art Works applications and will make 1,029 grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000.

The Marcus Center for the Performing Arts and Milwaukee Public Schools continue to partner for the Center's performing arts outreach program - Arts Connect.  The Center is thrilled to announce this program is continuing to grow with its third Summer Arts Camp during the run of the Broadway show, Beautiful-The Carole King Musical, this week. This opportunity is free of cost and includes students from MPS' Riverside University High School, Ronald Reagan College Preparatory High School and Milwaukee High School of the Arts who have a strong interest in the performing arts.

Stephen Sondheim's masterpiece Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street arrived at the Skylight Music Theatre last weekend to dazzle audiences with the American songwriter's brilliant, exquisite lyrics and melodies complimented by Hugh Wheeler's book.  A story resurrected from an old three penny publication titled 'String of Pearls' adapted from a 1976 Christopher Bond play retells dark, almost demonic yet ultimately redemptive tale revealing the horrors of revenge and the power of love through this award winning musical with songs such as "Johanna," "Pretty Women," and "By the Sea."

Live @ Peck Pavilion and Peck Flicks returns to the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts grounds this summer. The season will run from July 6 through August 26 and each day of the series will have a different program focus. This year, Optimist Theatre: Shakespeare in the Park will join the line up on July 6-9, July 13-16 and July 20-22 at 8 pm with a performance on July 18 at 12 pm and they will present Much Ado About Nothing.  All the events in Peck Pavilion will all be free and open to the public.
Shakespeare in the State Parks Returns for One-of-a-Kind Third Season

Wisconsin-based traveling theatre group Summit Players Theatre is returning for a third season, and will be performing Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors from June 16 to July 30 in 16 different Wisconsin State Parks. All performances will be free and preceded by a 45-minute educational workshop. After being founded by a group of Marquette University students two years ago, the group is now an established nonprofit company.

How curious and curiouser an English children's fantasy written in 1865 for three sisters has been translated into 174 languages and never been out of print since, never once. Lewis Carroll's surreal tale 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland,' usually shortened to 'Alice in Wonderland,' appears on stage at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts when Artistic Director Michael Pink and Milwaukee Ballet present their version of Alice in Wonderland, which first premiered at the Washington Ballet in 2012, With this immense production of Alice, MKE Ballet Costume Manager Mary Piering completes 32 years in the company's costume shop at 5th and National to refit the more than 120 costumes for the one weekend only performances. A visit to the shop the week of rehearsals found Piering stitching on a small headpiece, putting the finishing touches on the entire cast's wardrobe.

Kelly joins the nonprofit team responsible for the premier venue for performing arts in Milwaukee where in 2016, nearly 700,000 attendees visited, across 2,250 events. She brings a background in development and marketing to the team, with nonprofit and sports industry experience.
