Acorn Productions to Host Comedy Workshops for Westbrook Teens, Teach K-12 Acting Class

By:

Acorn Productions announces two community collaborations that will bring theatre educators into after-school programs in Westbrook, Maine.

The Westbrook-based non-profit company has received a generous $3,000 grant from the Davis Family Foundation to support a series of free improvisational comedy workshops for Westbrook teens at My Place Teen Center. In these workshops, participants will work with faculty members of the Acorn Acting Academy to gain confidence and self-esteem through theater exercises. The program addresses the need for community building and will run at the MPTC for four six-week sessions this school year.

Acorn Productions is also collaborating with the Westbrook Community Center to teach a K-12 acting class focusing on introductory theatre skills while creating an original short play celebrating Maine's Fall vegetables. Young actors will add one part garden science to one part actor training to present their production, "Playing With Your Food" at the end of the session for friends and family. Acorn will be partnering with the WCC for five eight-week sessions throughout the school year.

Acorn is thrilled to be working with these two local organizations to give youth an introductory theatre experience and a unique after-school activity.
