Dark Matters
ROOM FOR DANCERS 6
Is the first time it is received in Luxembourg, but Vancouver-based Crystal Pite is not a inconnue. On owed including parts for the Frankfurt Ballet, where she was a dancer for more 10 years, the Cullberg Ballet and the Nederlands Dans Theater. In 2001 she founded her own company, the pretty English name of Kidd Pivot, devoted to a dance-tinged poetry.
Dark Matters is based on the theme of "dark matter" and the story that Voltaire was the earthquake that devastated Lisbon in the eighteenth century, but also creates an environment strange, disturbing and unsettling, with the play of light and manipulation wooden puppets. "Dark matter" - dark matter - like terra incognita today. Component about 96% of the visible universe, it affects the speed, structure and evolution of galaxies, yet its nature remains a mystery. Reflecting on this powerful and disturbing darkness guide and inspire the creation of Crystal Pite. Result of the interest and fascination of the choreographer for the invisible forces present in his work on the mind and body, Dark Matters features six extraordinary dancers and heard the beautiful score of his longtime collaborator Owen Belton.
The first act of the play deals with the tension between creation and destruction through a deeply theatrical fable. The protagonists are manipulated by puppeteers who drive the narrative anonymous while revealing his tricks. The second act is pure dance, with choreography designed to reveal the purity and grace of an improbable puppet, while addressing the critical issue of free will and paradox inherent in the manipulation.
"Do not say too much not to spill the beans, but only unveil Pite has a terrible sense of humor! See them move is sheer delight. Montreal La Presse
