Corcadorca Return with a New Production of Enda Walsh's THE SMALL THINGS

The Award Winning Corcadorca Theatre Company are delighted to return to Cork Midsummer Festival with a new production of Enda Walsh's, "The Small Things", to be performed at the Old Waterworks, Lee Road, starring Peter Gowen and Pauline McLynn. Opening on June 17th and continuing until June 29th, with previews on June 14th and 15th, it will be directed by Corcadorca's Artistic Director, Pat Kiernan, music and sound design will be by his long-time collaborator, Mel Mercier, and set and lighting by Paul Keogan.

I have no memory of writing "The Small Things." I knew I wanted to write about my then living mother trying to keep my dead father alive - by talking to him. But what came out was very surprising and like other plays I have written - I got out of the way of it. It became a love story about survival in a violent world and a celebration of the small things we cling to. It is also an ode to language, to is a play about enforced silence that explores language and humanity's need for words. The play is a two-hander, with two characters - known only as Man and Woman occupying the stage. Walsh says, '"The Small Things" Enda Walsh's talking. It is still my favourite play of those I have written. It is imagistically the largest and was the start of my obsession with play structure. I am beyond excited that Corcadorca and the genius, Pat Kiernan, are taking it on - especially with Pauline and Peter on board - two of our greatest actors. It will be quite something.'

Corcadorca, and director Kiernan, have enjoyed a successful partnership with Walsh, having brought their multi award winning production of his play "Disco Pigs" to the world stage in the late nineties and more recently, with their production of his commissioned work, "The Same" which won Best New Play and Best Actress awards in 2017.
