The Morris Performing Arts Center, South Bend, announces the installation of "City Garden" original outdoor artwork at the Jon R. Hunt Plaza located in front of the Morris. The metal sculpture can be viewed in the plaza near Colfax Avenue. Funding for "City Garden" was made possible through a grant from the Roland W. Goheen Trust Foundation.
"We welcome the addition of this unique piece of art on Jon R. Hunt Plaza which has become the hub of arts, culture, and entertainment in downtown South Bend," staTed Mayor Luecke. "Throughout the spring, summer, and fall, it is amazing to see so many people gather to enjoy a variety of activities in this distinctly urban setting."The artist, Richard Peterman of Grandville, Michigan, who passed in May 2011, created "City Garden" as his last sculpture using mostly recycled materials with wire welding and brazing. Peterson also created the "Guitar Man" sculpture which was installed in May of 2009 at the southwest entrance to the plaza near Colfax Avenue. Peterson contributed to a cleaner environment for over 30 years by using many recycled automotive related materials for his artwork.Be sure to visit "City Garden" the next time you are in the plaza - prior to a show at the Morris or enjoying the warm Summer weather at the plaza tables.
