Somewhere in Transylvania, in a land inhabited by Hungarians, Romanians and Gypsies, lives Zórika, daughter of the country lord Péter Dragoján, who is about to make arrangements of his daughter's wedding with Gábor, son of the rich neighbour farmer. The ceremony is unexpectedly interrupted by Zórika's childhood lover Józsi, who fought his way up from poverty to being the leading violinist of the town. The old lover wins and Zórika leaves her father and bridegroom to flee to the gypsy camp. The story becomes even more complicated, when Ilona, the provincial primadonna, Józsi's former mistress shows up...

In Gypsy Love, three different cultures, three seemingly incompatible world-views meet and clash in the form of a romantic love story. In Lehár's masterwork, there is more than meets the eye: the eternal search for happiness and freedom is deeply entwined with the fragile relationship of the different ethnic groups, yet the solution is so obvious that it is to be feared that no one would even notice it.

The opera quality music is full of grandiose choir parts, passionate and achingly beautiful solos and duets, with such unforgettable songs as "Messze a nagy erd?" or "Vad cigánylegény vagyok". This wonderful piece of the operetta literature is directed by Attila Béres, who, after directing the piece in the Sverdlovsk Musical Theatre, Yekaterinburg and Szeged Open Air, will present Gypsy Love in its original version.
