An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

Breakdown

• Penelope Sycamore (Age early 50s) - Playwright, Mother, Playful spirit, warm, humorous.
• Essie Carmichael (Age 20s) - Penelope's daughter. A pixie-like wannabe ballet dancer who never takes her ballet slippers off.
• Rheba (Age late 20s-30s) - More than a maid, Rheba is the voice of sanity and an anchor within the household, and can arch her eyebrows at all the silliness around her.
• Paul Sycamore (Age 40s-50) - Husband of Penelope. A self-styled raconteur, inventor, and free thinker. Youthful charm and fun.
• Mr. DePinna (Age indeterminate) - A scientist at heart who has a passion for making fireworks and loves blowing things up.
• Donald (Age late 20s-30s) - Rheba's boyfriend, another voice of reason who is amused by the eccentricities of the family around him.
• Ed Carmichael (Age 20s) - Husband of Essie. A wide-eyed young man who has a passion for printing things, and knows all the fonts. He also loves his xylophone.
• Martin Vanderhof Grandpa (Age 60s-70) - Youthful energy, with a wry sense of humor that catches people off guard. Very much the patriarch of the entire family. He is always the calm in the chaos around him.
• Alice (Age 20s) - Granddaughter of Martin. Unlike the other members of the family, Alice is in daily contact with the world around her. She has escaped the mild insanity but still loves them all deeply. A lithe and blithe spirit.
• Henderson (Age 20s-40s) - A taciturn agent of the IRS. Not much sense of humor, and flummoxed by the entire family.
• Anthony Kirby (Age 20s) - Alice’s current crush. He is every aspect of the “boss's son”. Recently out of both Yale and Cambridge, with the face of an idealist and the physical aspects of a true sportsman.
• Kolenkhov (Age indeterminate) - A mad Russian ballet teacher, boisterous, with a huge personality that engulfs all around him.
• Gay Wellington (Age 30s) - An actress with a healthy sexual appetite and a love of gin.
• Mr. Kirby (Age 50-60) - Father of Tony, who has spent his life as an empire builder and an acolyte to business.
• Mrs. Kirby (Age 50-60) - Mother of Tony and stalwart wife and partner to Mr. Kirby. She ALWAYS does the right thing.
