For an appointment, call 540/869-1776 between 10 AM and 5 PM. Equity Members without appointments will be seen throughout each audition session, as time permits.

Audition appointments are five minutes long. Actors may present as much material as they wish within that time period.

Please prepare at least one 32-bar song and one monologue. Bring sheet music; accompanist provided. Sides from A CHRISTMAS CAROL and GROUCHO will be available (visually-impaired performers may request an advance copy of sides when making an audition appointment). Actors who are also musicians may bring and play instruments as part of their auditions (keyboards and percussion will be available at the audition).

Please bring a picture & resume, stapled together.

Note: The character descriptions below are provided as a guideline only. The Theatre encourages all interested, talented actors to audition for these and all productions, even if they feel that no role described below is “right” for them.

A Christmas Carol Adapted by Warner Crocker and Steve Przybylski. 1st reh: 11/9/10. Runs 11/27-12/24.

Notes: Roles will be cast with two actors (who will play them at different performances). All actors play people of London and narrators.

Ebenezer Scrooge:

40-70. Role for a leading character actor. Only light singing required.

Ghost of Jacob Marley / Mr. Fezziwig:

40s and up. Marley: Terrifying apparition from Scrooge’s past. Fezziwig: Robust and jolly apparition from Scrooge’s past. Character roles. Must sing.

Bob Cratchit:

30s-40s. Scrooge’s poor clerk in the present. Has a large, loving family but not enough money for them. Must sing well.

Mrs. Cratchit / Mrs. Fezziwig:

30s-40s. Mrs. Cratchit: Bob’s tired wife. Strong woman who cares for her large family as best as she can under the circumstances. Mrs. Fezzwig: Apparition of a happy hostess from Scrooge’s past. Must sing well.

Fred:

20s. Scrooge’s nephew. Filled with the joy of the holiday season. Light singing required.

Phoebe / Belle:

20s. Phoebe: Fred’s wife in the present – not a fan of his grumpy Uncle Scrooge. Belle: Apparition of the lost love of Scrooge’s past. Must sing well.

Southern Crossroads: The New Orleans Adventure by Warner Crocker and Steve Przybylski. 1st reh: 1/11/11. Runs 1/29-3/13.

Original musical currently being completed; prequel to the original SOUTHERN CROSSROADS, which had its world premiere in 2008.

The show centers on a Depression-era family of musician singers, all of whom can play multiple instruments. All actors must play a musical instrument or some combination of the following: fiddle, banjo, upright bass, percussion, guitar, piano, mandolin and/or other stringed instruments. The character of Rusk must play piano and be skilled at playing ragtime.

Note from Equity: Offers have been made to performers who participated in Wayside Theatre’s production of the original SOUTHERN CROSSROADS; the Theatre states that no offers have been accepted as of the date of this notice’s posting. Therefore, all roles remain available. Notice will be updated if the status of casting changes (i.e. if offers are accepted before auditions are held).

Wallace:

Oldest of the Greene Family Singers. “Leader of the band”.

Rusk:

“Dark horse” of the family.

Shannon:

Only sister in the family. Since the death of their parents, she has taken up the position as caregiver for her brothers.

Loomis:

Youngest of the family. Energetic, positive, youthful.

Ewell and Willis:

The two quiet brothers of the family. They play their songs when needed, and they play their cards the rest of the time. War vets.

Groucho, a Life in Revue by Arthur Marx and Robert Fisher. 1st reh: 3/8/11. Runs 3/26-4/23.

Bio musical about The One and Only begins with Groucho as an old man doing his famous Carnegie Hall show. It then goes back to the beginnings of the Marx Brothers and their struggles to make it in Vaudeville, their rise to stardom and their eventual breakup. All classic Groucho songs are included.

Seeking three very versatile actors. Must sing:

Male 1: Groucho

Male 2: Chico/Harpo

Female: Margaret Dumont / Wives / Girlfriends. Great comic actress needed.
