Breakdown

THIRD
(by Wendy Wasserstein, director Rob Ruggiero)
First rehearsal: September 8, 2015
Runs: October 2, 2015 - November 8, 2015.

Seeking:

LAURIE JAMESON. Female, 54. Caucasian. A professor of literature at a small, highly selective New England college that is consistently ranked within the top 10 liberal arts schools in the country. Twenty-five years ago she was the first woman at the college to get tenure; she has an amazing reputation. Once upon a time, she believed she could change the world. But beneath a veneer that seems to prize original scholarship and open perspectives, she can be arrogant, glib, and impossible. She hasn’t changed her perspective in 30 years. She is fiercely liberal, vigilant in her beliefs (however misguided), and suffers from free-floating anxiety (and menopause). Must be a dynamic public speaker and have great facility with language and rhetoric.

WOODSON BULL III (known as Third). Male, 20. Caucasian. A straight, white young man from the Midwest, on the fence politically, but everyone assumes he’s a Republican. To others, he seems like he’s a privileged, pretty, jockish frat boy—but his life isn’t as easy as it seems. He’s always thought of himself as a regular guy: regular looks, regular smarts, regular athlete. A wrestler but a little too small to compete professionally, he makes the practical decision to be a sports agent instead. He’s got a good mind, and he wants to be challenged. Must have great facility with language.

EMILY IMBRIE. Female. To play late teens. Caucasian. Laurie Jameson’s daughter; a first-year college student at Swarthmore. She’s mildly rebellious, dry, and cynical—or, as many people seem to tell her, too young to be as cynical as she is.

JACK JAMESON. Male, 80s. Caucasian. Laurie Jameson’s father. Physically still vital, but suffering from dementia. Given to Lear-like outbursts.

NANCY GORDON. Female, 50s. Caucasian. Laurie Jameson’s colleague and best friend—though their friendship is not without some tension. She can be blunt and sardonic, and guarded about her personal life. Seven years ago she fought cancer; now it’s back, and she’s in treatment, with difficult choices ahead of her. Over the course of the play, she falls unexpectedly in love. It’s a very big deal. For those who know her well, her positivity is disconcerting.

CHRISTMAS ON THE ROCKS
(conceived and directed by Rob Ruggiero)
First rehearsal: November 17, 2015
Runs: November 27, 2015 - December 23, 2015
Seeking:

MAN - 40s, character actor who must be able to play multiple Christmas characters who have now aged. They must be able to go from one very distinct character from another and must have great comic timing.

WOMAN (Auditions are being held for emergency replacements ONLY) - 40s character actor who must be able to play multiple Christmas characters who have grown up. The actor must be able to go from one very distinct character to another and must have impeccable comic timing.

BARTENDER (Auditions are being held for emergency replacements ONLY) - Male 60s-70s character actor. He must be the straight man for a lot of jokes, but also be able to communicate directly to the audience with subtle, simple looks. He is willing to go on whatever journey the patrons of his bar take him on. He is a great listener and must be impeccable at giving the stage over to the other two actors without distracting.

BUYER & CELLAR
(by Jonathan Tolins, director TBD)
First rehearsal: December 18, 2015
Runs: January 8, 2016 - February 14, 2016

Seeking:

ALEX MORE. Male 20s-30s Alex More has a story to tell. A struggling actor in L.A., he takes a job working in the Malibu basement of a beloved megastar. One day, the Lady Herself comes downstairs to play. It feels like real bonding in the basement, but will their relationship ever make it upstairs? Alex is quick witted and sarcastic. Actor must be versatile with impeccable timing, able to play many characters including Barbra Streisand.

SEX WITH STRANGERS
(by Laura Eason, director Rob Ruggiero)
First rehearsal: February 16, 2016
Runs: March 11, 2016 - April 17, 2016

Seeking:

ETHAN. 28, then 30. Sexy. A blogger turned book writer, he dreams of literary greatness. Very charismatic. When he's on he's Scott Disick incarnate: a fast talking, attention getting, ladies man. He seeks a more authentic life where he's taken seriously in love and literature. From Chicago but has little to no specific accent.

OLIVIA. 39, then 41. Smart, sexy. A brilliant novelist, although she doesn't always believe it. Outwardly strong but defeated by career aspirations gone astray. An analog girl in a digital world, she finds solace at a remote writer’s retreat. American, but spent many years living abroad. Has recently finished a second novel, but is too afraid to release it and face the possibility of another crushing defeat, or the chance of living the dream.

THE CALL
(by Tanya Barfield, director Jenn Thompson)
First rehearsal: April 19, 2016
Runs: May 13, 2016 - June 19, 2016

Seeking:

ANNIE: Caucasian. Late 30s-Early 40s. Renowned artist. Warm, poised and capable of throwing a great dinner party. Quit painting to become a fulltime mother. A struggle with infertility has left her with a dry sense of humor and somewhat bruised ego. By the end of the play, she has gone on a soul-searching journey to a place of hope.

PETER: Caucasian. Early-Mid 40s. Annie’s loving and devoted husband. Mature but hasn’t lost his sweetness, yet he’s seen more of the world than he cares to reveal. His immense desire to be a father makes him capable of taking a leap of faith that puts his marriage to the test.

REBECCA: African American. Late 30s-Early 40s. Annie’s fun, “life of the party” best friend. Loyal and kind-hearted, blurts out the truth but wouldn’t hurt a fly. Banter with her girlfriend Drea is often sparked with humor.

DREA: African American. Mid 30s. Rebecca’s girlfriend, an emerging artist who has recently received wide recognition. Has strong opinions about race that she will argue for argument’s sake. Beneath her hip and edgy façade, she will take the high road when necessary.

ALEMU: Ethiopian. Male. Early-Mid 40s. Buoyant and affable, he is a vivid storyteller with an offbeat sense of humor. While he first appears to be upfront, open, and a tad eccentric, he is capable of flashes of anger when pressed
