LOA ref. to COST; $531.00/week

SEEKING

Seeking AEA performers who are strong actors, dancers and singers- all ethnicities and backgrounds for various principal, supporting and ensemble. Especially seeking mature character actors. To be considered you must attend the audition and be available for callbacks. Please make sure you have your Equity card and please bring head shots and resumes stapled back to back. No video submissions please.

PREPARATION

Prepare 2 brief songs 1 uptempo and 1 ballad. Bring music in the correct key, an accompanist will be provided but will not transpose. Actors for MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET must play instruments. Some performers may be asked to stay and dance please bring appropriate dancewear and shoes

MAMMA MIA!
Director/Choreographer- Kevin P. Hill
Performance dates- May 27, 2020-June 6, 2020. First rehearsal May 12, 2020

DONNA (early 40s – the mother of a 20 year old girl) Attractive and free-spirited. A former lead singer in a group called “Donna and the Dynamos” who now owns and runs a hotel/casino on a Greek island. A strong feminist who also has a zany and vulnerable side. Principal role.

SOPHIE (20) Born and Raised on the island. A very special young woman who is determined to find the romance and happiness she feels eluded her mother. Has a wild, zany spirit even though she pursues a conventional marriage. Pop soprano. Principal role.

TANYA (late 30s-early 40s) A former singer in the “Dynamos”. Rich, sophisticated, acerbic, funny, and witty. Supporting Principal role.

ROSIE (late 30s-early 40s) Also a former singer in the “Dynamos” She’s confident, strong, and funny on the outside but shy underneath. Kooky and fun, good comic actress, bit of a clown. Actress who sings. Supporting Principal role.

LISA (21) Sophie’s friend. Very energetic and kooky. Should sing and dance well. Featured Ensemble role.

ALI (20) Sophie’s friend. Impulsive and fun. Featured Ensemble role.

SAM (40s) May be Sophie’s father. Left Donna 20 years ago because he was engaged to another woman. Charming. Actor who sings. Baritone. Supporting Principal role.

HARRY (40s) May be Sophie’s father. British financier, wealthy, buttoned-up, and conservative but trying to reconnect with his freer, youthful self. Also an actor who sings. High baritone, tenor. Supporting Principal role.

BILL (40s) May be Sophie’s father. A travel writer with no possessions or strings. Good-natured, always ready for adventure. Funny, preferably a big or imposing man. Supporting Principal role.

SKY (20s) Sophie’s fiance. Athletic, attractive. Featured Ensemble role.

PEPPER (20s) Sky’s friend. Barman at Taverna. Charming, loves women, always flirting. Must be a good mover/dancer. Acrobatic skills a plus. Baritone/tenor. Featured Ensemble role.

EDDIE (20s) Another friend of Sky and helps with water sports at the Taverna. Laid-back, easygoing. Also a mover/dancer role. Baritone/tenor. Featured Ensemble role.

Father Alexandrios – The local priest – Ensemble role

Chorus
Men and woman of the island, who work at Donna’s Taverna and appear as wedding guests.

Guitar, the first and still undisputed King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
Male; early 20’s

CARL PERKINS
Lead guitar player, the first poet of Rock ‘n’ Roll

JOHNNY CASH
Guitar Player, a giant of American music at that dawn of his epic career.
Male; mid-20’s

SAM PHILLIPS
The Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll and founder of Sun Records; discovered Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and many others, including Roy Orbison, and B.B. King. A towering and charismatic figure in American music.

FANNY BRICE - Female, 18-young 20’s
Jewish comedienne, lower east side roots. A vocal powerhouse and a good mover. Quirky, brash, determined, comedic finesse, plays from an impassioned teen to major star, wife and mother. Requires remarkable actor/singer.

NICK ARNSTEIN - Male, 30-40
Extremely handsome, charming, sophisticated, suave and honest. A self-possessed gambler and the love of Fanny’s life. Must have a strong middle range voice. Baritone.

MRS. BRICE - Female, 40-50
Fanny’s Mama. Jewish, practical, dry, funny, wise in the ways of the world. Little sophistication. Must sing.

EDDIE RYAN - Male, 25-35
A resilient Irish kid, 2nd generation. Good comic timing, bright, energetic, sincere; must be a strong singer/dancer who taps extremely well.

FLORENZ ZIEGFELD, JR. - Male, 50’s
Famed Broadway producer of the Ziegfeld Follies. Elegant and distinguished, imposing, tough, resonant, distinguished. This is a non-singing, non–dancing role.

MRS. STRAKOSH - Female, 40-50
Mrs. Brice’s poker playing crony. A Yenta with charm. Strong, shrill yet funny.

MRS. MEEKER - Female, 40-50
Another of Mrs. Brice's cohorts, a comedienne.

MRS. O'MALLEY - Female, 40-50
The 4th in Mrs. Brice's quartet of friends; Irish accent.

TOM KEENEY - Male, 40’s
A tough Vaudeville producer. Cigar chomping wise guy, Will double with Ziegfeld Tenor and Mr. Rinaldi.

EMMA - Female, 20+
Fanny’s dresser and confidante, wise and supportive; part of the ensemble

MR. RENALDI - Male, 40’s
A theatrical agent, Smooth, urbane; strong acting skills. Will double with Ziegfeld Tenor and Mr. Keeney.

ZIEGFELD TENOR - Male
Sings the lead into “His Love Makes Me Beautiful, high production style tenor.

ENSEMBLE
Strong singer/dancer/actors to play various roles and to understudy Principals.

REN MCCORMACK (Lead): Male, 18-25.
Tenor. Energetic, emotional, rebellious, likeable; emotes his pain through quirky sarcasm and dance; strong dancer.

REVEREND SHAW MOORE (Lead): Male, 35-55. Baritone.
The powerful, traditional local church leader; strict, stern, and solemn, still struggling with the death of his son.

ARIEL MOORE (Lead): Female, 18-25. Mezzo-Pop.
Smart, a bit of the bad girl with an edge, sweet, the rebellious minister’s daughter; role requires strong belt, must be a strong singer/dancer.

VI MOORE (Supporting): Female, 30-50.
Soprano. Reverend Moore’s loving, supportive, resilient wife.

RUSTY (Supporting): Female, 18-25.
Great soprano/pop voice. Ariel’s friend; a bit scatterbrained, sweet, fun, knows everything about everything; role requires strong belt, strong comedic timing and dance.

WILLARD HEWITT (Supporting): Male, 18-25.
Tenor. A simple country bumpkin with a warm heart and a big smile; comedic timing and dance a must.

ETHEL MCCORMACK (Supporting): Female, 35-45. Soprano.
Ren’s mother; had a tough go, just trying to make it…would do anything for her son.

CHUCK CRANSTON (Supporting): Male, 18-25. Tenor.
The local bad boy and Ariel’s boyfriend.

URLEEN (Supporting): Female, 18+. Mezzo/Alto.
Ariel’s friend; the smart one of the group; role requires strong belt, comedic timing, and dance.

WENDY JO (Supporting): Female, 18-25.
Mezzo. Ariel’s friend; strong belt, comedic timing, and dance required. Ensemble

CHORUS / ENSEMBLE: Males & Females, 18-70.
Townspeople, students; need strong character people (all age ranges) for many roles (listed below); teenage through adults; chorus singing, dancing parts; all teens dance, all adults dance at the prom.

CHARLIE PRICE - Male, 25 to 35
A bit confused, a bit unfocused, a hero hiding under a victim's mantle.

LOLA/SIMON - Male, 30 to 35
A prize fighter's physique draped in satin. A talented drag queen with a killer voice and winning ways.

NICOLA – Female, 20 to 30
Charlie's long-term girlfriend. Driven, uncompromising.

LAUREN - Female, 20 to 30
Beautiful and strong working-class girl. Comedic actor with strong voice.

DON – Male, 20 to 40
Lola's nemesis. Burly hypermasculine bear of a factory worker

PAT – Female, 20 to 40
Officious office manager who will let loose her wild side when allowed. Lola's love interest.

TRISH - Female, 20 to 40
Factory worker with a husband and kids to worry over.

GEORGE – Male, 30 to 50
Factory manager keeping up traditions. Reserved.

THE ANGELS - Male, 20 to 30
The drag performers who populate The Blue Angel Nightclub. This ain't a job for no wall-flowers. Must be FIERCE dancer comfortable in heels.

MR. PRICE - Male, 50 to 80
Charlie's father.

SIMON SR. – Male, 30 to 50
Lola's father. An unforgiving tower of anger.

HARRY – Male, 25 to 40
A contemporary of Charlie's but his opposite. Successful, self aware and confident.

RICHARD BAILEY – Male, 30 to 50
Nicola's boss. An overtly attractive and successful man.
