SEEKING:

Prospero:

40s – 60s. The exiled Duke of Milan. A powerful intelligence and presence. A sorcerer, intent upon control and filled with anger and intent upon revenge . His journey through the play is to forgiveness, repentance and acceptance.

Miranda:

Late teens / 20s. beautiful, innocent, good hearted. Almost something of the feral child about her.

Ariel:

Any age – but probably 20s / early 30s. Could be male or female. Preferably but not necessarily ethnic. Must be extremely agile physically and unafraid of heights. Possibly dance, gymnastics or acrobatics in background (though he/she will NOT be doing acrobatic or gymnastic tricks!)

Caliban:

30s? Strong physicality and imposing presence, though not necessarily a large man. A sly intelligence but a brutish manner and something of an innocence to him. Must have comic abilities as well.

Trinculo:

30s – 40s. Strong comic. Something of a sad sack. Nervous and fearful. Think Buster Keaton or Stan Laurel.

Stephano:

30s – 50s. Strong comic. Comic drunk. Self important and immensely pleased with himself – but essentially good natured. Think Oliver Hardy, Foster Brooks (does anyone remember Foster Brooks?) W.C. Fields.

Alonso:

50s +. King of Naples. Strong, intelligent and essentially a good man.

Gonzalo:

60s +. The Kin’s counselor. Long-winded and sometimes a little dense – but a good man with a great heart.

Antonio:

40s-50s. Prospero’s younger brother who deposed Prospero as Duke of Milan. Intelligent, quick witted, always scheming for advantage, filled with envy and greed.
