The Sisters Rosensweig follows three disparate Jewish sisters from Brooklyn as they reunite in London for the birthday of Sara, the eldest sister. Over the course of a chaotic weekend, the sisters come to terms with their differences – as well as their love for one another. The Sisters Rosensweig is a heart-warming comic portrait of a complex family from one of America's best playwrights, the late Pulitzer Prize-winner Wendy Wasserstein.
Please note: All three sisters suffer from something that was instilled them by their mother; a sense of feeling superior and worthless at the same time.
SEEKING
Sara Goode:
(Early 50s) : She is celebrating her 54th birthday. On the surface she is a strong, charismatic, handsome business woman who is smart, dynamic, droll, and sophisticated but out of touch with her sexuality. On the surface, she seems to be all steel but underneath, she is vulnerable and very sensitive. She exudes dignity and authority. A New Yorker who has lived in London for years. An overachiever who is in a true mid – life crisis.
Pfeni Rosensweig:
(35 – a young 40) She is the youngest sister. A free-spirit and world traveling journalist. She is a commitment phoebe who longs for a relationship. She is funny, intelligent, vulnerable and is afraid that she is not pretty enough. She seems to be shy but is actually a rebel underneath. She has strong opinions that she doesn't always share with others. She feels superior to others but also has self worth issues, like her sisters.
Geoffrey Duncan:
(40s) He is a theatre director. He is attractive, sexual, funny, colorful and unorthodox. Vibrant and whimsical. He can be the life of the party, but underneath he is confused as to who he really is. Though he claims to be a “closet heterosexual”, he is mostly attracted to men.
Mervyn Kant:
(Late 50s to early 60s) Sara’s romantic foil, he is funny, sociable, smart, and down to earth. A romantic at heart. He knows who he is and appreciates traditional values and has no problem standing up for his beliefs.
Nicholas Pym:
(Late 50s to early 60s) A high-society Englishman, he is quick-witted and glib, speaking with a natural, off-handed ease that betrays a lack of sincerity. He is an elitist, who is sexist and more than likely a bit racist and anti-Semitic.
