Indicate in the subject line: “The Nutcracker and I / AEA Self Submission”

Seeking:

Celeste:

(soprano) Adult actress 18+ to play a late teenage girl; beautiful, dynamic, smart, funny, and feisty; with a strong, agile soprano voice and a large vocal range (some coloratura required); must move well enough to be believable as a gifted young ballet dancer, but it’s primarily a singing role for a very appealing performer -- magnetic and self-confident -- with a charming personality and comedic skills.

Eliot/Nutcracker:

(baritone-tenor; must be able to sing a high A – falsetto or legit). Adult actor 18+ to play a geeky late teenage guy who transforms into a handsome leading man as the Nutcracker; a versatile comic actor with a strong legit singing voice and a keen sense of vocal and physical comedy.

Zack:

(high baritone) Adult actor 18+ to play late teenage hottie – super athletic, super handsome, Olympic snowboard champ; smooth ladies’ man; must move and sing well; all the girls love him until they realize he’s in love with himself.

Professor Hoffman / Toy Policeman / George Balanchince / Dr. Stahlbaum:

(baritone) A strict choreographer with a heart of gold; a hard-bitten NY cop; an insufferable snob and legendary artiste; a kindly old country doctor -- multiple roles for a mature, comically-gifted character actor; must sing well and be proficient at various accents (German, New York, Russian, New England).

Mother / Sugar Rush Fairy:

(high belter with occasional soprano notes) Mother is quirky and eccentric; a health-food nut; a stage mom/frustrated ballerina; loving and lovable, she pushes too hard. Sugar Rush Fairy is a true diva, a binge-and-purge sugar junkie, out for her own self-gratification and self-aggrandizement. She’s a comic send-up of a prima ballerina; all ego with illusions of grandeur.

Father:

(baritone) blue collar type, manual laborer in good shape; not a ballet or health-food fan, he’s long-suffering and often frustrated; not much of a bread-winner, he’s happy-go-lucky and loving, but has a hard time expressing tender feelings. This actor needs a strong singing voice, plays several other roles, including a goofy teenage jock, Hispanic bodega owner, working-class Ukrainian waiter, etc.
