Breakdown
CAST BREAKDOWN All should sing something legit that shows off vocal range and ability. Auditioning with music from the show is welcome - particularly for the roles of Margaret, Clara and Fabrizio. PRINCIPALS Margaret Johnson – 40’s to 50. Legit Soprano ranging from G below middle C up to G#. An elegant, self-possessed, practical and attractive American woman in middle age. Good mother, somewhat over protective. Warm and appealing. Southern accent. Clara Johnson - 26. Strong legit soprano ranging from low A, strong belt/mix to high E. Margaret's twenty-six-year-old daughter, young and naïve for her age. Clara is utterly open and charming and always in the moment. She is the perfect young lady ala a Southern 1950's finishing school. She should be a classic American beauty. Southern accent. Fabrizio Naccarelli – Early 20’s. Lyrical tenor to a high B. Fabrizio is a dazzingly handsome Italian boy. He is innocent, pure and sweet. He speaks very little English. Most of his dialogue and vocal lyrics are in Italian and broken English. He is any young American girl's dream of what a young Italian man should be. Speaks and sings In Italian. Giuseppe Naccarelli – Late 20’s to Early 30’s. Baritone. Fabrizio's older brother. He only speaks Italian. He is married to Franca but pursues other women. He is not terribly bright, but certainly manages to live his life the way he wants to. Dance ability a plus. Speaks and sings In Italian. Franca Naccarelli – Late 20’s to early 30’s. Franca is Giuseppe's passionate and sexy wife. She loves Giuseppe but he makes her unhappy much of the time. Think Gina Lolabridgida. Speaks and sings In Italian. Signor Naccarelli – 40’s to 50. Baritone. Fabrizio's father. He owns a clothing shop in Florence. He is very smooth and speaks English very well. Speaks and sings In Italian. Signora Naccarelli - 40’s to 50. Legit Soprano. Fabrizio's mother. She appears to be the dutiful, traditional Italian wife and mother but she has her own thoughts about everything. Speaks and sings In Italian. Roy Johnson – 40’s to 50. Baritone. Margaret's husband. He is an executive with a tobacco company in Winston-Salem, NC. He is emotionally unavailable and cool. He should have a southern accent. SINGING ENSEMBLE (4 men and 4 women) Strong legitimate voices, versatile and able to hold tight harmonies. Good actors with some movement required. The following roles will come from the ensemble: Tour Guide, Priest. All ages and types to play the people of Florence. No children. All must be 18 years of age.
