Seeking actors, singers, rappers (M/F, various ages). All roles are African American. All roles are available (i.e. not yet offered and accepted):
Old Man/Sir:
African American, 40ish. Exuberant charm of energy and seriousness. If this play were a train, he’d be the beloved conductor.
Boy/Mister:
African American teenager or early 20s. Ball of energy and gusto. Delightful pest who recklessly serves his purpose.
Thelma:
African American, 50ish. Functioning alcoholic. Church pianist. Full of pride, but full of uncertainty when it comes to facing her own demons.
Clara:
African American, 50ish. No-nonsense. Speak the speech I pray you as she pronounces it trippingly off her tongue, even if it’s offensive and unholy.
Deacon:
African American, 50-70. Eldest male. The not-so-solid anchor whose nature is always to do what’s right, though sometimes selfishly. An often funny man whose comedy is the offspring of his seriousness.
Sarah:
African American, 50-70. Eldest of them all. Powerfully quiet soul of reason. Sincere and full of heart.
Bobby:
African American, 40ish. Boyishly charming. Pure-hearted man whose ambition often exceeds his abilities. His speech isn’t always comprehensible.
Pastor Harold P. Jones:
African American, 30s-40s. A pastor seemingly with the world on his shoulders, driven by a passion- filled mission of purpose.
Sister Pauletta Denise Jones:
African American, 30s-40s. A grand personality, a diva, the epitome of hard work and success, the epitome of a hard shell with a sour yolk. Can sing gospel/classical/operatic.
Jamal:
African American, 15-18. Wannabe gospel/gangster rapper. A “Mister-type”, but with a bit more edge, although the edge is ultimately dull. Must be able to rap.
Monique:
African American, 15-18. Aspiring R&B vocalist who keeps her heart and talent secret and well- protected. R&B singer.
