SEEKING
Equity actors for roles in RIDE THE CYCLONE (see breakdown). Actors of all ethnicities and gender identities encouraged to submit. In reference to the character descriptions below — most characters we encounter currently are on the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns and you will see that in the following descriptions. But however limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities. Let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or if there are any accommodations we can provide (Language developed by Kevin Kantor and Emily Tarquin from the Actors Theatre of Louisville).
PREPARATION
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Advance perusal of the script is requested. The script is available at the Box Office at Stage West Theatre, 821 W. Vickery Blvd, Fort Worth TX 76104.

BREAKDOWN
RIDE THE CYCLONE - Rehearsals Begin Monday, September 15, 2025.
Rehearsal schedule is Monday through Saturday with Sundays off.
Rehearsal times are Mondays through Fridays 6:30 PM-10:30 PM, and Saturdays 1:00 PM-5:00 PM and 6:30 PM-9:30 PM.
Performances

There’s been a freak roller coaster accident. The lives of six choir students have been cut short. Now in limbo, a mechanical fortune teller gives them a chance to win a prize like no other - one of them can return to life. Strap in - the musical competition is about to get wild. Enter a wacky and wondrous tale about the twists and turns that can happen when life goes off the rails.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
THE AMAZING KARNAK - (any/all genders welcomed and encouraged) 30s-50s. A mechanical fortune telling machine - think Zoltar. A cheeky and knowing presence, with a steady, measured, calm inflection that exudes gravitas, but it is never pushed to comedic extremes. There is no archness in the voice. Think an ominous mechanical Santa Claus – or God – or Hal 3000. Actor will be in a contained box for the majority of the show. Physicality will likely be limited to upper body and should have a mechanized quality that can contrast with the smoothness of the voice. While this role does not usually sing, there may be a possibility that they could.
OCEAN O’CONNELL ROSENBERG – she/her; 17-18; the self-proclaimed leader of the group; competitive and preppy; type-A with straight As; sees herself as virtuous; feigns fairness; tries to prove her worth and value through accomplishments; self-important; very polite and very rude; her parents are hippies; high Broadway mix, with a bright, pop quality; big vocal range.
MISHA BACHINSKI – he/him; 17-18; the bad boy of the group; adopted from the Ukraine as a teenager; a lot of rage, love, and pain; values celebrity and social status; obsessed with rap music and auto-tune; longs to be reunited with his Ukrainian girlfriend who may or may not be real; his adoptive parents are ashamed and keep him at a distance; thick Ukrainian dialect; Baritenor who can rap as well as sing lyrical Ukrainian folk music.
NOEL GRUBER – he/him; 17-18; the jaded romantic of the group; the only gay kid in town; darkly funny and brooding; a lover; dry and cynical, yet hopeful and caring; gritty; sees through others’ facades; obsessed with French New Wave cinema; fantasizes about living a life of debauchery and dying a tragic death; his mother tries to protect him; sings in the style of a French chanteuse.
RICKY POTTS – he/him; 17-18; the inter-galactic dreamer of the group; had childhood trauma that left him speechless and somewhat physically contained in life, but has regained these abilities in this limbo; unexpected confidence and imagination and sexual prowess; not bitter; raised by his dotty and infantilizing grandparents; special skills welcome (tumbling, juggling, splits, etc); Bari-tenor with 70s-80s rock voice.
CONSTANCE BLACKWOOD – she/her; 17-18; the nice girl of the group; fuller-figured and outwardly okay with it; deep self-loathing; well-liked, if not somewhat socially invisible; best-friends with Ocean; used to not being noticed or special; accepts abuse by others; kind and compassionate; dubbed ‘the nicest girl in town’, which she secretly despises; secretly rebellious; has loving and proud parents; alto belt with an alt-rock edge.
JANE DOE - she/her; (probably) 17-18; the outcast of the group; decapitated in the roller coaster accident and no one could identify her body; wants to know who she is; reacts to things in a literal manner; curious; something uneasy or haunted about her; accidentally funny; slightly robotic or doll-like in physicality; classical soprano with flexible coloratura upper range, mix-belt ability, and a full lower register.
RAT ENSEMBLE - a group of rats that have made the theme park warehouse their home; they also exist in this liminal space between life and death due to their exposure to uranium; acting as ushers and guides, the rats also serve as a chorus of witnesses to the kids’ lives; infused with identities of the once carnies, so that each rat has their own human-ish personality; will sing, but do not speak; nuanced relationship with Karnak.
