First rehearsal will be on Tuesday, May 12th. The show runs June 5–7, 2026.
Equity actors for roles in RENT (see 2026 breakdown). Actors of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, body types, ages, as well as performers with disabilities are encouraged to audition. All principal roles will be understudied.
Rehearsals will take place at the Capital City Theatre CORE space in Middleton, WI. All performances will be at the Orpheum Theater.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.
Prepare a one-minute cut in the style of RENT. Accompanist will be provided. If you need the required Equity audition cuts, they may be found at the Dropbox link above.

Mark Cohen (Age: 20–30) Male-presenting. Range: A2–G4 (sometimes A4 in optional lines). A struggling documentary filmmaker and the musical’s narrator; quirky, anxious, witty. Possesses strong storytelling ability and emotional clarity. Some movement.
Roger Davis (Age: 20–30) Male-presenting. Rock tenor. Range: B2–A4. A recovering addict and ex-rock musician searching for purpose and healing. Has a strong rock sound and emotional intensity. Guitar proficiency is helpful.
Mimi Marquez (Age: 20–30) Female-presenting. Mezzo with strong belt. Range: G3–E5 (F5 belt). A dancer at the Cat Scratch Club. Sexy, vulnerable, and strong-willed; struggles with addiction. Is a confident mover.
Maureen Johnson (Age: 20–30) Female-presenting. Mezzo with belt. Range: A3–F5. Performance artist, dramatic, comedic, flirtatious, unpredictable. Possesses comedic timing and strong belt for “Over the Moon.”
Joanne Jefferson (Age: 22–35) Female-presenting. Alto/Mezzo with belt. Range: G3–E5. Lawyer, intelligent, grounded, and organized. Maureen’s partner. Strong harmonies and duet capability for “Tango: Maureen.”
Tom Collins (Age: 20s–30s) Male-presenting. Lyric rich baritone. Range: F2–A4. A philosophy professor; warm, big-hearted, gently humorous. Has a rich lower register and soulful tone (featured in “I’ll Cover You”).
Angel Dumott Schunard (Age: 20s–30s) Any gender. Tenor (strong falsetto ideal). Range: C3–A4. A drag queen, percussionist, and the emotional heart of the show. Needs charisma, vulnerability, and excellent movement/dance.
Benjamin “Benny” Coffin III (Age: 20s–30s) Male-presenting. Baritone. Range: B2–F4. Former roommate turned property manager; ambitious, polished, and pragmatic. Possesses a strong vocal presence.
The Homeless Woman (Age: 25–45) Female-presenting. Range: G3–D5. Strong character actor with vocal grit.
Alexi Darling (Age: 25–45) Female-presenting. Mezzo/Alto. Range: B3–D5. Fast-talking TV executive with strong comedic timing (voicemail solos).
