Jewish. 50s. Born Mark Rothkowitz. Highly educated. Exacting, unyielding, mercurial, narcissistic. Smokes, drinks, and eats junk food but paints and pursues his work methodically. Obsessed with the need for a place in which art can live and be observed.
Ken:
20s. A young painter assisting Rothko. Intelligent and educated. Analytical yet instinctive and emotional. Ken has a sense of humor about himself, Rothko and art. Has real trauma in his background.
