PREPARATION

For ALFREDO and VIOLETTA: Prepare to sing 16 bars of a song showing operatic style. For all other tracks: Prepare to sing a pop/rock song showing range (No musical theatre, please). Bring sheet music for the piano accompanist. Bring your book of songs. Bring a photo/resume stapled together.

BREAKDOWN

[ENSEMBLE, U/S VIVIAN WARD] To appear in the onstage ensemble and understudy the starring role of VIVIAN WARD: Female, 20s – 30s, any ethnicity. A quirky, sexy girl who reluctantly works on Hollywood Boulevard as a prostitute but harbors Cinderella dreams of a better life. A star-crossed meeting with a lost billionaire propels her into a fish-out-of-water adventure among the rich and powerful of Beverly Hills. A Rodeo Drive shopping transformation takes her from Malibu parties to opera galas where she learns that confidence, and staying true to oneself, is even more important that material wealth. In the process, she discovers her self-worth and becomes determined not to settle for anything less than taking full control of her own destiny. Needs strong comedic chops and movement ability. Excellent pop/rock singer. Must be versatile in style and have strong high belt and mix. ENSEMBLE

[ENSEMBLE, U/S EDWARD LEWIS] To appear in the onstage ensemble and understudy the starring role of EDWARD LEWIS: Male, late 30s – 40s, any ethnicity. A smart, successful, well-educated business mogul who takes over troubled companies and liquidates their assets. His tough, workaholic exterior conceals a sensitive, artistic side, including a love of music and the arts. He’s in the process of orchestrating the biggest financial deal of his career, but the recent death of his father has him questioning his priorities. He hires Vivian hoping for some temporary, hassle-free companionship, but she completely upends his life. He realizes he will have to change if he wants to hold onto the things that matter most to him. Excellent pop/rock singer. Tenor. Needs to confidently be able to sing an A. ENSEMBLE

[ENSEMBLE, U/S HAPPY MAN/MR. THOMSPON] To appear in the onstage ensemble and understudy the principal role of HAPPY MAN/MR. THOMPSON: Male, 30s – 50s, any ethnicity. The magical Hollywood Boulevard fairy godfather to Vivian’s street Cinderella, he begins the story as a fast-talking peddler of Maps to the Stars who urges Vivian to hold onto her dreams. Later he transforms into Mr. Thompson, the efficient, dapper manager of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. He teaches Vivian ballroom dancing, how to dress like a lady, and, most importantly, to believe in herself. Excellent pop/rock singer. Tenor. Must be vocally diverse and able to switch between styles. Strong movement ability. ENSEMBLE

[ENSEMBLE, U/S KIT DE LUCA] To appear in the onstage ensemble and understudy the principal role of KIT DE LUCA: Female, 20s – 40s, any ethnicity. A professional prostitute and party girl who took Vivian under her wing to teach her how to survive on the streets. Tough but funny, she comes to realize she has a lot to learn from Vivian about not giving up and settling for less. Inspired by Vivian’s example, begins a search for a better life. Excellent pop/rock singer. Powerhouse high belter. ENSEMBLE

[GIULIO] Male, late teens – early 20s, any ethnicity. Must read youthful. Strong technical dancer and strong pop/rock singer. To appear in the ensemble with a feature as the young bellhop at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Should have a wide-eyed innocence and comedic ability. Preferably on the shorter side in height. ENSEMBLE

[DAVID MORSE] Male, 20s — 30s, African-American. The grandson of Mr. Morse, he is eager, creative, and smart. He has come up with a daring plan to save his grandfather's company by retooling it to build cruise ships for the Hawaiian Islands. Strong pop/rock singer. Strong movement ability. ENSEMBLE

[MR. HOLLISTER] Male, 30s—40s, any ethnicity. A Beverly Hills high-end clothing store manager, he understands that sucking up to rich patrons is a big part of his job. He will say or do anything to make a sale. Strong pop/rock singer. Strong movement ability. ENSEMBLE

[VIOLETTA] Female, 20s – 40s, any ethnicity. To appear in the ensemble with a feature as an opera singer playing VIOLETTA in a “La Traviata” sequence. Must have a glorious high soprano operatic voice and also the ability to sing in the pop/rock style. Strong movement ability. ENSEMBLE

[ALFREDO] Male, 20s — 40s, any ethnicity. To appear in the ensemble with a feature as an opera singer playing ALFREDO in a “La Traviata” sequence. Must have a glorious high tenor operatic voice and also the ability to sing in the pop/rock style. Strong movement ability. ENSEMBLE

[FEMALE SINGERS WHO DANCE] Female, 20s – 30s, any ethnicity. To appear in the ensemble with features. Possible principal understudy assignments. Strong pop/rock singers. Strong dancing ability. ENSEMBLE
