SEEKING:
Norman Thayer, Jr:
Male, 60+. Actor must convincingly play 79 years old. Norman is boyish and peppery, having hung onto his vigor and his humor, but at the same time, he is grand; he has a manner, a way of speaking and of carrying himself that seems to belong in another era. It is a larger-than-life quality, an extra dimension of size that old men seem to take on. Norman’s health is good, a touch of arthritis, palpitations, gout, and a few other slight irregularities notwithstanding. He is flirting with senility, but he knows it, and he plays it to the hilt. Actor should have sense of humor and a “northeastern” style vulnerability, and be nimble with language. Salary negotiable for name talent.
Ethel Thayer:
Female, 55+. Actor must convincingly play 69 years old. Norman’s wife. Small, but energetic beyond belief. She is Norman’s opposite in many ways. She fills the empty spaces when he grows quiet. She has a fierce, quiet inner strength that becomes fully apparent only when useful. She is greatly disturbed that Norman is slowly giving up on life, but she’s determined to see him through this without letting him know of the depth of her concern. Salary negotiable for name talent.
Chelsea Thayer Lane:
Female, 30s-40s. Norman and Ethel’s daughter. Pretty enough, athletic, used to be pudgy as a teenager, and still has some lingering self esteem issues. There is something dark about her, but she has her father’s humor. She works up the courage to push through her father’s temperament, speak truth to him, and finally build the respectful relationship that she has always wanted.
Bill Ray:
Male, late 30s-late 40s. Attractive and well-dressed, a ready smile. Polite. He tends to be serious but has a good sense of humor when he remembers to use it. He works at being an intellectual, and is a bit cautious in life. He has extra personality supplies, on reserve, just below the surface.
