Breakdown

MOTHER
An older and ailing, acerbically tongued Irish woman who really loves her son, though her tongue won't let her and who really wants to die, though her body refuses to quit.
KATHLEEN (played by the same actress who plays MOTHER)
A young WWI nurse, who is inclined towards golf and romance. She's is flirtatious and confident, generous and compassionate.

PHILOMEL
A literal siren. She is as sweet and seductive as she is dangerous. Outspoken. There is hope and heroism in her speech, but her motives are forever suspicious. A realist, she prefers scientific periodicals and catalogs over romance novels, and though a part of her longs to be a homemaker she is ultimately better suited to her rock in the lake.
