BREAKDOWN
DESCRIPTION
Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award® winner Tracy Letts (August: Osage County) takes a brutally comedic look at Wheeler, a 50-year-old divorceé in the throes of a mid-life spiral. Just out of his ex-wife’s garage and into a place of his own, Wheeler starts on a path toward self-discovery — navigating blind dates, old friends, and new love. Full of opinions, yet short on self-examination, Wheeler must reconcile the man he has become with the man he wants to be.
SEEKING:
All roles have been CAST. Currently seeking the following understudies:
WHEELER
Role CAST; Seeking US. A 50 year old, white, cis-gendered, straight man. This play is his story and he appears in every scene. He is a camera repairman who was once a photographer. He is emotionally volatile, funny, garrulous, opinionated, intelligent, and lost. Recently divorced, he has moved into his own place and started his new single life. He appears nude in two scenes where he simulates sex and orgasm. The nudity is extensive and frontal at times.
PAUL
Role CAST; Seeking US. A 50 year old, married, straight, cis-gendered man who lives in San Diego. He can be of any ethnicity and/or US region. He is the best friend of the main character, WHEELER, and he and his wife, MARGARET, are old college buddies with WHEELER. He is intelligent, a precise speaker, deeply faithful to his ideals, and has a rich sense of humor. There is no nudity, though he appears briefly in underwear as he dresses in a locker room scene with WHEELER.
ANITA
Role CAST; Seeking US. An early-30s, any ethnicity, accent open, cis-gendered, open-orientation woman. She works in a camera shop though she aspires to go back to school and teach or “be of service” to the world. She is a recovering addict and a great listener. There is no nudity.
MICHAEL
Role CAST; Seeking US. A 50 year old, white, cis-gendered, straight or bi man. He owns and runs a San Diego independent camera shop. In all ways, a regular guy, he lives with his mother, drives a fancy sports car, and is often depressed. He talks explicitly of sexual desire for a co-worker. There is no nudity.
MINNIE
Role CAST; Seeking US. A 27 year-old first-generation Vietnamese-American, cis-gendered, straight, bi, or pan, woman. She lives a full-on rockabilly style, has no job, and an abusive boyfriend. Her story includes a pregnancy we see, drinking, and a scene after a fight with her boyfriend. She is involved in kissing and simulation of sex and orgasm with WHEELER. She appears fully nude for one scene; is frontal at times.
MARGARET
Role CAST; Seeking US. A 50-year old, any ethnicity, bi-lingual or accent open, cis-gendered, straight woman. She is an interior designer, has a backbone of titanium, and deep pain. She is married to PAUL in a loving marriage. She is WHEELER’s college friend. There is no nudity.
JULES
Role CAST; Seeking US. A late-30’s, any ethnicity, bi-lingual or accent open, cis-gendered, straight or bi woman. She is a successful independent life coach with a Masters Degree. She finds herself single at the beginning of the play and dates WHEELER. She is involved in kissing and simulation of sex and orgasm with WHEELER. She appears fully nude for one scene and is frontal at times.
