Nina Rosario (CAST)
A first-generation college student and has just returned home from her first year at Stanford University. She is the daughter of Kevin and Camila Rosario. The community looks to her as a symbol of success, as someone who has achieved great things outside of “the Heights”. Carries the weight of her community and family on her shoulders. Very strong singer with soprano belt range.

Abuela Claudia (CAST)
The warm (sometimes funny) matriarch of the neighborhood and is everyone’s Abuela. Both strong and wise, she has lived in the Heights longer than anyone and practically raised Usnavi after his parents died. Strong belt.

Daniela (CAST)
The savvy, strong-willed, straight-talking owner of the salon next to Usnavi’s bodega. Bold, sassy, funny, enjoys banter and demands respect. Her business is a victim of gentrification and is forcing her to move to the Bronx. A mentor to Vanessa and Carla in a tough love style. Great mover and great singer with a strong belt.

Kevin Rosario (CAST)
The owner of Rosario’s Car Service, Camila’s husband, and Nina’s father. After emigrating from Puerto Rico, he has worked hard his entire life to build his business and provide for his family. He is stubborn and fiercely proud of his daughter's achievements. Great singer.

Camila Rosario (CAST)
The co-owner of Rosario's Car Service with a quiet, but strong hold on her husband Kevin. She fell in love with him at 19 and emigrated together to New York to open their business and raise Nina. Great singer.

Piragua Guy (CAST)
He makes his living walking the streets of Washington Heights selling flavored shaved ice. He is a representative of the islands so many of the residents once called home. A very strong presence in the community. Excellent tenor. Good mover.

Usnavi de la Vega
Charismatic and funny. He is a likeable leading man and can be awkward at times. Owns a small bodega in Washington Heights. Abuela Claudia, the neighborhood matriarch, “practically raised” him when his parents both died during his early childhood. He dreams of moving back to the Dominican Republic. He is in love with Vanessa. Extremely strong singer/rapper/dancer.

Benny
Best friends with Usnavi and in love with Nina. Benny is a driver for Kevin Rosario's dispatch. He grew up having to make his own way and Kevin took him under his wing. Benny hopes to someday own his own car service and represent the hard work and optimism of a hopeful entrepreneur. Baritenor. Excellent singer, rapper, and mover.

Vanessa
A stylist at Daniela’s salon. She longs to get out of Washington Heights. Hardened in part by a troubled home life but maintains a hopeful outlook. Close friends with Nina. Has a soft spot for Usnavi. Excellent singer/belter and dancer.

Sonny
Usnavi’s idealistic and optimistic younger cousin who works at the bodega. He has a genuine desire to improve the inequities of his community and emulate Usnavi. Strong comedic abilities. Excellent singer/rapper and strong mover.

Carla
Works at Daniela’s salon. She is a supportive friend and looks up to Daniela. Some would say she’s a loyal sidekick. She can be naive at times but is not a ditz. Strong comedic timing. Great singer with a strong belt and mix. Great mover.

Graffiti Pete
A graffiti artist who’s good friends with Sonny, much to Usnavi’s dismay. A comedic nemesis of Usnavi and tags up Usnavi’s bodega. Always carries a boombox and spray cans. Skilled hip hop and/or break dancer. Strong rapper and singer.

Ensemble/Residents of Washington Heights
Residents make up the community of Washington Heights. The ensemble is heavily used in the storytelling of the show. Excellent dancers in street and salsa styles. Excellent singers.
