BREAKDOWN

All roles require a British accent.

JUDITH BLISS (Female, 45-60, Mezzo-Soprano with high extension and strong low belt) retired actress, mother to Simon and Sorel, wife of David; her life is a performance and she has not adjusted well to country life. A true diva. Seeking a dynamic performer with the comedic range and vocal chops of Christine Ebersole or Beth Leavel.

DAVID BLISS (Male, 45-65, Baritone) Judith’s husband, Sorel and Simon's father; a successful but scattered novelist who hides away for long periods of time attempting to write his novel.

SOREL BLISS (Female, 20-25, Soprano with strong mix) daughter of Judith and David; fresh, vibrant, intelligent, and ultimately: selfish and spoiled.

SIMON BLISS (Male, 20-25, Tenor) son of Judith and David; an aspiring artist who is in constant competition with Sorel for Judith’s attention. Falls in love quickly and forgets just as easily. Selfish and spoiled.

MYRA ARUNDEL (Female, 35-50, Mezzo-Soprano) well-dressed, confident, and sophisticated with very dry humor; invited to the Bliss house by her admirer, Simon, but comes to steal David from Judith.

RICHARD GREATHAM (Male, 35-50, Baritone) Sorel's invited guest, an English diplomat; somewhat stiff, but likable and intelligent.

JACKIE CORYTON (Female, 20-30, Mezzo-Soprano) David’s invited guest; a young flapper, very sweet but not very bright.

SANDY TYRELL (Male, 20-30, Tenor) Judith’s invited guest; amateur boxer with a youthful energy and adoring fascination with Judith.

CLARA (Female, 45-60, Non-singing Role) Judith's former dresser and now her housekeeper; over-worked and under-appreciated.
