Breakdown

CAREY- Mid 20’s. Female. Any Ethnicity.
An army veteran of the Iraq war, a gay woman who worked on a convoy in Iraq, now trying, unsuccessfully, to adjust to civilian life. She is haunted, stubborn and suffering from PTSD as she is prone to huge emotional swings. On the eve of being considered for the Purple Heart – an honor given those wounded or killed in combat -- she is forced to re-live the devastating loss of her friend in Iraq, and her own inability to re-enter society.

CHAD. mid 20’s-early 30’s, Male. Any ethnicity.
An army veteran, who worked as a medic on a convoy between Harbur Gate and Mosul. A man who felt discarded all his life, he’s just been awarded the Purple heart, an honor which has liberated his identity as a gay man, a cross-dresser and a soldier.

RUSSO, age 21. Male. Caucasian.
A cocksure sergeant in the Marine Corps, riding assist in a convoy to Mosul. Amidst increasing danger, on the dark road, he tries hard to mask his growing apprehension and fear with insolent behavior.

ALYSON Moss, Mid 20’s . Female. Any Ethnicity.
Alyson is a Marine; highly competent, an expert sharp shooter, she is also expert at navigating the misogyny of the Marine Corps. We meet her driving in a convoy on the road to Mosel on the day she dies.

MICHELLE, age 26 Female. Any Ethnicity.
A Marine veteran, Michelle is trying to cope with civilian life, but finds herself causing spontaneous traffic accidents when she drives through red lights. She is harboring a secret which is churning at her inside. While seeking temporary refuge in a city park on a day she causes a UPS truck to overturn, she meets a blind painter who leads her on a journey of transformation.

JOHN, 30’s-early 40’s. Male. Any Ethnicity.
A blind painter who says he is a veteran of the Iraq war who lost his sight in an explosion. He is a man of quiet contradictions: a painter of vibrant colors he can’t see, an ordinary man, with extraordinary qualities, grounded, and also mystical. When he encounters a troubled female vet in a city park on a day she’s created a dangerous traffic accident, he subtlety leads her on a journey of renewal.
