BLUE RIDGE
By Abby Rosebrock
Directed by Taibi Magar

SCHEDULE:
1st Rehearsal: Tuesday, November 13, 2018
Tech: Saturday, December 8 – Tuesday, December 11, 2018
1st Performance: Wednesday, December 12, 2018
Opening: Monday, January 7, 2019
Closing: Sunday, January 27, 2019 (possible one week extension)

Seeking:

Alison:
Around 40, white, passionate spitfire high-school English teacher from the rural south. Determined to be reinstated in her old job after committing an act of vandalism that was maybe understandable given the circumstances. Spends immense energy keeping unconscious shame and half-conscious rage at bay. So charming that not even she tends to realize how much she steamrolls people. CAST

Grace: 40s-early 50s, woman of color (can be African-American, Latinx, Asian-American, Middle Eastern-American, Native American or any combination of these) from the rural South. Co-runs a church-sponsored halfway house with humor and great social finesse. Wants to foster community and compassion in a punishing world; despite her shrewdness, opts to see the best in others, sometimes at the expense of acknowledging tensions within herself and her environment.

Cherie: around 40, African-American woman from the suburban South. Former high-school teacher looking into a career in social work. Has worked to excel at the challenges of twelve-step recovery; others in recovery look up to her. Doing her best to maintain integrity and self-respect as she navigates a complicated romantic entanglement.

Wade: 30s, biracial male guitar player from the rural South. Doing well in a twelve-step recovery program but still has a habit of burying deep resentment and manufacturing friendliness to cope with unacknowledged childhood wounds. Funny, flirtatious, a gentleman. (Must be comfortable playing guitar.)

Cole:
mid-30s, white, army vet from the rural South. Laconic, conscientious, humbled by life. At his rock bottom.

Hern:
40s-early 50s, white, beloved Protestant minister from the rural South. Has dedicated his life to service and a progressive social mission; still has deep personal wounds to examine and heal.

Location: a small town in the mountains of Southern Appalachia
