Breakdown
CASS ELLIOT: Commanding presence. Comic timing is a must. Huge voice-vocal range Alto-Soprano. 5’1-5’2 in height, very heavy (can be padded if need be), great actress. Should have similar image to the real Cass DENNY DOHERTY: beautiful folk rock voice. Tenor. Handsome, masculine, similar to his image. Young 20’s, strong actor. 6’ to 6’2 in height. Denny had a flirtatious personality that came naturally. SCOTT McKenzie: (and various other roles). Must play guitar. Shorter, blonde, physical look is best, Strong actor/singer. Tenor range. Plays a varied assortment of roles but primarily the shy, neurotic Scott McKenzie. ZAL: (and other roles) Zal must be a comedian first and foremost. Very theatrical with a crazy spirit. Baritone/tenor range. Rock n’ Roller. Strong actor, playing a variety of featured roles. Guitar playing is a plus. Lou/ Ed Sullivan: Strong male actor capable of a great Ed Sullivan imitation. Mid to late 40’. Lou, is the Mamas and Papas manager. No push over. Very LA style. Slick, fast paced and can be blunt and generous at the same time. Controlling. Vocals are not an issue. This track also plays a variety of other roles from a wild haired bar owner, to a very Jewish NY club owner. Not shy, very commanding.
