BREAKDOWN

DOG SEES GOD: THE CONFESSIONS OF A TEENAGE BLOCKHEAD

In this 2004 play written by Bert V. Royal, the Peanuts comic strip characters by Charles Schulz are
reimagined as hormonal teenagers experiencing the trials and tribulations of adolescence. Our
director is currently collaborating with the playwright to update the play’s language to reflect and honor
the society in which we live today.

SYNOPSIS:

As CB mourns the death of his dog, he begins to ask himself, his family, and friends bigger existential
questions that lead him on a quest to explore and discover what it means to love, die, grieve...you
know, everything that makes us human.

SEEKING:

The roles of CB, Beethoven, Marcy, and Van’s Sister have been cast.

[MATT] 18+ to play teen, any ethnicity, male-presenting. Cocky, narcissistic, homophobic. He is CB’s football-playing best friend who will not stop thinking and talking about sex. After seeing a change in CB’s relationship with Beethoven, Matt’s raging jealousy reveals that he may have a secret of his own. NOTE: Actors with substantial TV/Film credits are encouraged to submit

[CB’S SISTER] 18+ to play teen, any ethnicity, female-presenting. Smart, caring, theatrical. Constantly evolving (literally), she is having her own identity crisis. She changes her philosophy on life often and that pretty much reflects the way she behaves and dresses daily.

[TRICIA]18+ to play teen, any ethnicity, female-presenting. The quintessential popular mean girl. The yang to Marcy’s ying, she may as well be a professional drama queen. When she throws a party with Marcy while her parents are out of town, it changes their friend group dynamic forever.

[VAN] 18+ to play teen, any ethnicity, male-presenting. Funny, dry, warm. He is constantly high, which only intensifies his philosophical worldviews. He also repeatedly attempts a sexual relationship with CB’s sister.

[SWING #1] 18+ to play teen, any ethnicity, male-presenting to cover [CB] the lead protagonist who’s having an existential crisis sparked by the death of his dog, [BEETHOVEN] the school outcast who’s world is turned upside down when it’s made public that he and CB are romantically involved, [MATT] the school bully (see description above), and [VAN] the philosophical stoner (see description above). NOTE: This role involves same-sex kissing between CB and Beethoven. An intimacy coordinator will be present to supervise.

[SWING #2] 18+ to play teen, any ethnicity, female-presenting to cover [CB’S SISTER] a goth girl who is constantly reinventing herself (see description above), [VAN’S SISTER] an institutionalized and troubled spirit who also happens to be CB’s most trustworthy confidante, [TRICIA] the school mean girl (see description above), and [MARCY] Tricia’s sidekick who doesn’t fully have an identity of her own yet.
